2022 sr5 premium vs. trd off road premium

Hi all -

We are searching for a solid/reliable car for our college son and as a beach car up north. We are not big off-roaders, but we live down a long dirt road and like to take our SUV's to a 'drive on beach'. We will also use the 4runner in Boston during the winter months.

Our understanding is that the sr5 premium would fulfill our suv needs. Is it worth paying 5k more for styling and the off road tech? Although we don't need locking diffs, etc. - would that improve resale value? Seems like we are already spending a lot of money, so why not get the extra features?

I feel that the sr5 premium will be more than sufficient assuming that its 4wd.

When I was in the market last year the sr5 was an option for me as well, but I couldn't get over the two-tone interior(seats/trim), so I spent a bit more for the off road premium.

I wouldn't worry too much about resale value. Plenty of buyers have absolutely zero interest in the locker and traction devices (if the buyer even knows what they are). Fake leather heated seats and the moon roof will be the biggest deal makers or breakers. I bought an SR5 Premium as I didn't think, at the time, the $4,000 up-charge for a TRP-OR Premium was worth it. 2 years later I have no regrets.

And the SR5 doesn't have the fake hood scoop that glares in the sun.

 

If you’re not gonna do any serious off roading, save the money and get the sr-5, but definitely invest in some rust proofing

 

I would pay the 5k extra but that’s me personally everyone’s needs are different and I actually need and use a rear locker (not all the time every once in a blue moon) but I personally prefer the actual shift lever as well

 

It’s always nice to have a locker. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. I’ve used mine plenty of times.

Thanks for the help! I think we are most-likely going to purchase a new(2023) sr5 premium. Unless you think we should wait for the 2024...

 

Welcome form Texas. I agree with the ones here in favor of the SR 5 premium for your choice. My opinion is to not get the 2024, but again, just my thoughts.

 

Welcome. You can’t go wrong with either as they share the same drivetrain, platform, and suspension. The biggest difference being the rear locker, wheels, exterior color options, and KDSS availability.
