Hi, I have a 96 Toyota 4Runner SR5 that I put a new AC button/switch in. Ever since then when I turn the AC on the fuse under the hood blows. I replaced the old button because the face was gone and I had to use a pin to push inside to engage the button. I ordered one from Amazon is it possible I got a bad button? Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Do you have the old one? If so, can you try reconnecting it to see if the problem goes away?

Yes, it's possible the new switch isn't configured the same. If you have an ohmmeter you can compare the switches.

Unfortunately I threw the old button away. Before I decided to get a new one when the old one quit, the face was gone I could use a pin it would push the rod inside the button to engage it and the light would come on. Then one day I don't know if I pushed too hard but it wouldn't do anything when I pushed on it it just stayed in there like it was jammed with no light on it and wouldn't come on. My first guess was that the switch they sent was bad or like you said configured wrong. This new Switch has two bulbs in it the old one had only one bulb. I guess I'll order another button and try that first. Thanks

I’m not familiar with that specific button but you should be able to simulate the button on and off with a wire lead or jumper of some sort just to test.

Just for the heck of it, see if you can contact a dealership or search genuine Toyota parts online from a dealership. For example, is it item 19 in this pic?

I was wondering how many connectors it has. Might be tricky.

Update its fixed! So I ordered another button off ebay. Same thing happened it keep popping the fuse. I ordered a whole new used panel with original button in it. Replaced it and ac is working again. So them Amazon and ebay ac button/switch are junk. They are not configured right or something. Gotta stick with original parts.

    Glad you got it fixed!

Everyone needs to stop buying Amazon\ebay parts. I only go ebay for used parts.

Agreed. Look at all the hassle some folks go through, often just to save a few bucks by avoiding a dealership (not directed at OP). The few extra bucks are worth it if it’s right the first time. My willingness to part with extra cash is directly related to the anticipated hassle of getting a problem resolved if there is one, + the effort I had to expend finding out it’s the wrong part.
