    Thanks for reading.
I have no idea what the fuel pump sounded like or if it any made any noise at all when it was new, however I can hear it quite well when I start up, and also intermittently while I'm driving.
I have had other vehicles with electric fuel pumps and don't really remember hearing the fuel pump.. or if I did, I really had to listen for it.
So, is this something I should be concerned about, or is this normal.?

Toyota fuel pumps are really strong but after 20 years, it could go out. I replaced mine when I got an evap code and I replaced all those parts on the tank as well.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I've owned only 2 FI 4Runners, a first gen 87, and a 3rd gen 99. Both of them I could hear the fuel pump quite clearly if I turned the key to start without engaging the clutch or the Clutch Cancel switch. Not obnoxiously loud, but clearly hearable.

I believe it's just the way the fuel pumps are. Maybe something about the fuel tank's acoustics, but in any event, no trouble hearing it at all.

    Have fun!
