    Ron is right, you're likely going to have to replace the shocks anyway so may as well do it all in one shot. I put a 3" in the front and a 2" rear (Cornfed kit) and the shocks were "topped out" so replacing the shocks was a must. The 5100 in the front are adjustable. I didn't do the springs but I was afraid I would lose the ride quality if I did and honestly, it rides exactly the same as before the lift and had I put stouter springs on, I think the ride woulds have suffered. I know a lot of guys put FJ springs on and have no complaints.     I used the stock springs since I don't have a plate bumper or anything heavy on the front.

    After researching about the easiest and most cost efficient way to lift my 2016 SR5, Bilsteins all around seemed to be the way to go. I clicked on the link above that you have posted and saw alot of shocks, how do i know which one to purchase? have you had problems purchasing from this site? do you recommend any other sites to purchase from? What additional items besides the 4 shocks are needed to complete this lift of 3" in the front and 2" in the rear?

    Look on the bilstein website for the correct part number. Amazon had the wrong part number listed for my '06 Tacoma. So I ended up ordering the correct part number on Amazon even though Amazon said they would not fit my truck. They fit perfect!

    Did you only replace your shocks and struts or Springs/Coils also... I was contenplating the Bilstein 5100 with the OME 883 fronts and 895E rears (2WD SR5 V6)

    Springs and coils are still factory, since I have no armor or tow anything. I did not want to change the ride, I just wanted to get rid of the front rake and level out my 4Runner.

    So Bilstein's 5100 all around, 2.5 lift for the front and 1.5 lift for the rear to have a leveled lift? I could use factory coils and springs. Does this sound right? Are spacers still needed for the rear lift?

    You will still need spacers for the rear. The 5100 rear shocks do not provide lift. I ran the $40 rear Daystar 1.5" spacers in the past and they worked fine. Also if you have the funds spend the extra $170 on front lift coils to go with the 5100's and set the shock collar to 0 (bottom setting/no lift). This way you will not be preloading the factory coils and you will maintain ride quality. Also remember you may need need upper control arms to keep the alignment in spec. I run a 2.5/1.5 lift and I am pretty close to level with a slight rear rake (which I wanted).

    Sorry, been away for a bit, looks like I have the same setup and reasoning as Ron on his, Amazon also had the incorrect part numbers so I just called 4Wheeler (after just a search on Bilstiens site for vendors)and they were very helpful. I went by there this last monday on my way home from the camping trip and they have a regular storefront and are not a small hole in the wall. I wouldn't hesitate buying from them again. But I am not pushing you in any direction, get them where you get the best price or the quickest shipping. They are only a couple hours away from me so shipping was next day.
    Yes you can use factory springs/coils. If you decide to put a bumper on the front, you'll want to switch those springs out though. I have no idea what a swing out tire carrier would do as far as sag but I have 275/65 18's on mine and the spare barely fits in the factory spare "hole" and have no sag. I did have a bit of weight on there for the week and have a trailer hitch type tray carrier and had the roof rack along with way back full of gear and did have a slight sag.
    Part of the problem is that we all have slightly different preferences, none wrong just different and you are listening to all of us give you our preference, which may cause you more confusion. Brochacho, Ron, me, whomever you take advice from have the setup we are happy with, some the same, some slightly different but none wrong. I would however probably replace my coils if I were to do it again, springs are pretty simple to do whenever.

    My goal is to level out, lift the highest with the bilstein 5100, not sure on what rims yet but for tires, i will do 285/70/17 BF Goodrich AT KO2 or 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 285/70/17 SL

    What i am a little confused by is, for the rear lift...... do i have a choice between bilstein 5100 or spacers? or is both? and the upper arms control? are these needed for every lift? what do they do?

    For the rear you will have to do 5100's AND spacers. You could do it with just spacers I suppose but then you would have different shocks in the front vs. the rear and different shocks means a different ride and handling. Make sense? When you lift a vehicle it changes the suspension geometry (caster, camber, etc..) sometimes will need a upper control arm that will correct the geometry. 2.5" is kind of the cutoff, not all folks need them some do. I did with my 2.5" lift. Without them the vehicle may not handle correctly especially at highways speeds and the tires may also wear prematurely. I would say, get the lift have it aligned and see if it can get within factory specs, if not you will need them.

    I ordered spacers from Amazon but I received spacers for the FJ cruiser, FJ cruiser springs will also raise the rear too. I had a leaking shock and decided not to wait so I only went up 1.5" in the front and left my rear stock for now.

    Yes, you will need spacers as the rear shocks are not adjustable.

    I actually have 275/65 18's which is a 32.1" tire and they fit in the factory "hole" but this helped a ton when I was searching for tires. General Grabber AT2. I like these because they have that "Square" look if that makes sense, similar to the BFG's. They do pick up what seems like a lot of gravel and at 50mph, the gravel goes flying. My BFG's did that too though.
    I got them off of Amazon and saved a bunch of money but there is no road hazard when purchasing this way.IMG_1777.jpg

    The cornfed spacer kit, I got from Burtman Industries and Jason was super helpful and knowledgeable plus, he lives in my state so shipping was quick and I am very happy after two years on the rig.

    Shop around locally for rims, I got mine locally, from a small shop that specializes in wheels, not a national franchise which just wants your $ and does little to help you shop for what you want. Not to mention they are actually limited in what they can get for you and the local shop was actually cheaper than online plus, I knew I was getting the correct wheels.

    Just keep in mind after 3" of lift you're getting into a lot of front end work and will get expensive instantly. You will also want to get an alignment after the lift and some people have had to do the recalibration of the top dead center for the rig, I did not but it seems simple enough and if required, there are instructions all over online.

    So with the bilstein 5100, i lift it 2.5 in the front..... does the bilstein 5100 for the rear does lift at all? description for 5100 rear says it lifts from 0"-1".....

    when buying spacers, are there any recommended brands and sizes?

    I don't honestly know if those actually do add any lift, I don't remember what I got on the rear as I already had the spacer lift so didn't need any lift with the shocks, just knew the 5100 Bilstiens were very popular and reliable. I have 3" front 2" rear spacers on all four corners and pretty much leveled it out. Like I said I have the Cornfed but I know Daystar makes a good kit, I would just be careful of an ebay or Amazon lift that's not a name brand. There is another forum that has just tons of info on lifts, spacers, suspension, body, etc. I'll pm you that. I don't remember but the front has an aspect of a 1" spacer will lift the truck 2" on the front only, rear is 2" for a 2", I do not know about the the 5th gen which is what I am assuming you've got. But the 4th gen has the ratio of 2:1 so in essence a 2" rear and a 3" front will level the truck out but you are really only using a 1.6" in the front if I remember correctly so that's why I feel it is important to get a name brand for the correct generation rig that you've got. If you call daystar, they will tell you what you need to know. It's been nearly two years since I did all this so my memory isn't exactly 100% as I spend hours researching like you and then ended up emailing Jason at Burman Industries and he fixed me right up so I reshuffled all that memory space to something else ;). RonTR4 seems to know a lot about this too so you may ask him as well.

    The Bilsteins are only adjustable in the front... the rear are one setting like all the other shocks...
    I've heard that if you get above the 1.5 setting on the front they don't ride nearly as well. And if you get above 2" with any setup you need a dif drop and/or UCA's...That why I was thinking of the OME 834's on the front and 895E's on the rear to get my leveling/lift out of the springs instead of the preload method (use the .87 setting on the front 5100 if I need a little extra to take away the rake...)

    Am I thinking correctly?!? Or way off base? Pros please advise... I'm still as green as a bean with this stuff!!!!

    You are on the right track. Always better to use coils to achieve lift than preloading. I know on 5th gens the diff drop isn't needed not sure about 4th gens tho...
