Hey! I've been reading the forum for a bit over a year and figured I should finally sign up. I picked up a new '22 ORP back in April of 2022 for MSRP in Colorado Springs. I live along the front range and have enjoyed getting this beast setup the way I want, but of course it's always a work in progress. The plan is to own this for many many years and explore the wild west! I won't seek out the gnarliest trails or measure every inch of clearance or flex, but I don't want to be limited in where I can go. Mods will be made for quality of use/comfort, durability/longevity, or to get me further down the trail. Thanks for the welcome and hopefully I can contribute to the wealth of knowledge.

    A few mods so far:
    DD SS3 Fogs - pro
    Halogen -> LED DRL Conversion
    RCI engine skid and sliders
    Tint & front PPF
    Dash Light Control Sensor
Rear storage and sleeping platform with Luno
    LFD roof rack crossbars

    On order/to be installed:
    C4 LoPro
    Diode Dynamics ss3 bar
    Smittybuilt x20 10k winch

Hi Rocky. Welcome to the board!

I was drawn to your thread by the term “front range”, which I only recently became familiar with. I have a daughter just finishing up at Colorado College in the Springs, and it was from her that I first heard it. You have a Cabela’s nearby. I’m so jealous.

Tell me about your dash light control sensor. If I remember correctly the point of having one is so that when you turn your headlights on during the day (like when it’s raining) your instrument panel lights don’t dim. I’ve considered getting one, to avoid the drudgery of having to rotate the dimmer switch up past the detent. But I heard they don’t work on some trims, and some versions of them are just garbage. I have an ORP like you, so I guess it would work on my car. Which one did you get?

    Cheers.

Hey Captain, thanks for the welcome.

For the light sensor I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B73ZPNFH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details You are right that there are other versions for other years/models but that one works for us. It's a shame and sham that Toyota provides the wiring but the sensor part is a dummy piece of plastic.
Install was about 30 seconds with a plastic pry tool or a butter knife. I also wrapped a quick piece of tape around the male plug/wire so it didn't fall down into the dash after I unclipped the dummy sensor, but it wasn't needed. I found myself always having to adjust the interior dimmer dial, or being blinded at night by the HU, so this part now senses whether it is bright or dark out and adjusts the dash and HU brightness accordingly. My mom's 2012 Lexus had this auto adjust feature and it is nice to have.

I'm looking into the sensor as well.
Definitely should have come with our new rigs.
Enjoy the exploring. Hope to see more pics.

Ummm, that would be two Cabelas (Lone Tree & Thorton) and two Bass Pros (Aurora & Springs). Plus Scheels, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc. :spending:

Is there a Toyota OEM Active light sensor version part number available ( not the dumb plastic)

Best way to test if active or plastic.
I think @Kreeeg had a similar writeup way back

    Welcome OP.

Others who want to try this -
I did this to my 2018 ORP and one person commented that it didn't work for SR5. So better to check the trim and year. The cheap one I got from Amazon ($11.90) says its for 2010-2019 4Runner. I guess the 2020+ one is little expensive (OP has shared the link). Since the install is so easy (my video below if that helps), might be worth to give a try the sensor from Amazon according to the year of your 4R and if it doesn't work return it.

For the whole of her education I’ve tried to keep it a secret that she’s smarter than me. (Or is it I?) She’s always believed I was brilliant but in school my grades were middling. If she had known that she might have lowered her own expectations of her self.

Parenting tip: to motivate your kid in school, convince her that she’s a genius in a long line of geniuses!

Based on the partname I'd say yes. The diagram doesn't seem too helpful to confirm though.
