Drivers side lean - fix or ignore??

I know the topic of “Drivers Side Lean” has been discussed many times so excuse me for bringing it up again…

After lifting my 2021 TRD OR, I’ve got 1/2” lean front and rear on the drivers side. The lift was done with Dobinson’s springs with Bilstein 5100’s set at OEM ride height and uses JBA UPC. The ride and handling are fine and other than it bothers me that it’s not level from side to side, I’ve got no issues with the lean.

I could fix it with a 1/4” spacer on the front drivers side and a 1/2” spacer on the rear drivers side but the question is “Do I really need to fix it”?

Ignore or find a large friend to ride shotgun.

 

Perfect, makes up for the crown in the road.

 

I'd level it out since its cheap and pretty easy to do.

The front you could raise the driverside 5100 one clip higher.

 

This is something I’ve been wondering about with replacement springs on 5100’s. For non-KDSS I believe the factory springs have a different number of coils on each side which is also why Bilstein suggests setting the circlips in different grooves on the 6112’s which come with equal length coils.

Personally, I’d probably just leave it. 1/2” probably isn’t noticeable to anyone who doesn’t know about it.

 

Is the drivers side squat measured with full tank and driver in the seat, is a second battery installed ?

measured with full tank - nobody in vehicle and does not have a 2nd battery.

If one has to get out a tape measure to see if they have a lean, I would say ignore it.

I ignore mine. How I missed it on delivery, I'll never know. I don't want to mess with anything that does not absolutely have to be messed with. I leave all my vehicles completely stock so maybe I'm not an unbiased opinion and makes me a freak on this wonderful forum.

 

I have Bilstein 5100s with the front set at 1.85" and rear Bilstein 1" springs. Fixed my lean with a .25" cornfed spacer in the front drivers side and a 10mm OME spacer on the rear drivers side.

Was 100% worth going back in to add the spacers.

 

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I think I'll ignore it, or maybe I'll fix it. Probably just keep it in the back of my mind as something to do on a slow day. Like, cleaning out my toolbox.....

Is there officla explanation for the Toyota lean? Or is is all speculation.

 

More weight on drivers side.

 

When people notice your rig is leaning, just tell them, "What? You never heard of the Toyota Lean? Fat Joe made a hit about it back in the day!"

Education through subtle shaming can help others to focus on world hunger, gas prices, the cost of rice in the Philippines , and other more important things

 

Toyota intentionally designs vehicles with components towards the drivers side (Fuel assembly, battery, transfer case, driveshaft, Fuel tank, etc).

You will notice when installing a new suspension system your truck levels out. Then over time the springs settle and the lean comes back.....

 

Is this not counterintuitive? Would they not want more on passenger side so that when driver gets in it levels off a bit?

Crown of road for rain water run off ranges from 1-2%. For a 75” wide Vehicle, that is a lean toward passenger side of .75-1.5”. Driver side lean offsets this to some extent.

 

Can you see the lean at all? I can not from the picture but maybe front view it looks different? I got 5100s done recently and honestly didn't even bother measuring if there is any lean. Didn't notice driving however, but haven't put a tape measure.
