    Hey all,

I'm new to the 4Runner scene, but have recently joined an off-roading group in the PNW, and my lifted Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with a manual transmission proved to be more a liability than fun on our last outing. Even with skid-plates, I was having to use more momentum than sense. Also roasting my clutch along the way.

Even with an engineer salary, I can't quite stomach the new price of a TRD Off-Road Premium. I found a 2015 TRD Pro with 120k miles for $30k. It has new Cooper tires, 1.5" lift, roof rack, and a Gobi Ladder, along with an aftermarket CarPlay head unit. Here's a link to it: https://www.stouffairmotors.com/det...d_4dr_v6_trd_pro-used-jtebu5jr2f5228287.html#

On CarFax, it looks like it had a couple owners. It also has an open recall for the fuel pump, but I imagine Toyota will take care of that no problem.

I suppose I could get a used SR5, and install the lockers and skids myself, but is this a good deal?

For the price, I would spend $6k-8k more and get a new SR5 or SR5P at invoice and mod it the way that you want. Unless you are specifically after the inferno color.

That's a good thought. I think I'll have trouble getting one at invoice in Oregon, but I'll keep an eye out :)

Installing a rear locker isnt exactly cheap. It does comes in trd offroad trims as well as trd pros. The trd skid is just the front section... Do some searching on here plenty of good ideas.

And definitely shop around! I'm car shopping myself and its crazy the price differences just from different dealers. If buying used i highly recommend a certified pre-owned. But it seems like prices are settling down as well as interests rates.

I feel like that price is a little steep. I paid 34k for 45k miles on a 2021 TORP which has carplay built in. Only thing you would need is spend a little extra for the suspension you want, rack and ladder. Little more mileage on a newer year, but I didn't mind since it's a weekend vehicle and I work from home, so eventually the mileage will even itself out. But like others stated, do a bit of research in terms what all you will want and use, cause there are some things that are quite expensive to add, that you would have been better off having in the first place that came with it in a different trim. (Also from PNW).

Thank you! I think I've decided against this car. May look for new, and since trim differences between SR5 Premium and TRD Off-Road aren't that much. Might try my luck ordering through a dealer and go from there. Appreciate everyone's input!

For what you want to do a TRD Off road will fit you more than an SR5 unless you do some serious modifications that will be costly.
If you can stretch your budget to get a good condition TRD OR, it’ll be very capable and you can always upgrade suspensions and more later down the road if you want to go this route.
With the factory e locker and atrac you will be fine most of the time

Golden Rule when buying used vehicles!! Only purchase 1 owners!!

I own the same truck & bought it used, but stock - no mods. 70k miles for $38k.

That truck has seen some shit. I always tell people - never purchase someone's project. The rear slide tray looks like it has had many trips and pretty tore up. For me it's a hard pass. Too many mods - no way. That gobi rack isn't going to help your MPGs. The bolts all over the gobi rack are rusty as hell. The Pioneer head unit is nice, but you do not get the original instrument panel & components. With those mods comes you not having any of the factory parts they replaced. Whats up with the rusty exhaust? The wheels have a lot of brake dust or rust or something. The passenger photo shows some wire hanging down & going under the seat - that's a red flag on it's own.

That truck is not worth 30k. I'm sorry - lots of nice Used Pros in way better condition for $30-35k

If you make the drive or call up Dick Hannah Toyota up in Kelso and ask for Harry they don’t do any markups and have inventory coming in. Check their website to see what they have coming in. Just got my 3rd vehicle from them and they are great people. Got my mom a 23 RAV4 at $2000 under msrp. So if you can swing the extra money and buy new I would check with them.

I just picked up a 2023 TRD Pro at Columbia Gorge Toyota for MSRP. Great to deal with. Super easy transaction. Little out of the way but gave me a 100ish miles to fall in love with my purchase.

When I called them, they wouldn’t sell to out of state buyers.

I'm in Oregon, but they don't have much in stock right now. I've been setting out feelers a few places. Everything listed online is mostly claimed already, lol.
