Spare Tire Hoist

Hello All,

Like several others I've seen here, the cable for my spare tire hoist is rusted, frayed, and worthless. I have an '04 SR5. I know the newer models have a chain rather than a cable, which sounds like a better idea. Does anyone know if I could could put a chain hoist from a newer model on an 04?


Also, it seems like others have had luck getting them on car-part.com. I've never used the site, as I'm not terribly handy and haven't done a ton to my truck myself. Any advice on using car-part? Are most things reliable?

No experience w that site but if you are not handy, replacing the cable w a chain will be a challenge. On top of that have you tried removing the hoist? It's likely full of rust and a bitch to remove. I had to cut my cable just to drop the spare to get access to the hoist.

 

id use this as an excuse to get a tire carrier
