Hi there, I,m new here-have a 2008 Toyota 4 Runner SR5 -bought used in 2019-moved here from Florida and only have 131,000 miles on the vehicle. Been reading about the rust problems and want to do preventive maintenance on my vehicle since I now will have to deal with ice, salt and snow. Where is the best place to get an undercoating done on my vehicle and how much should it cost me(ballpark) and how long will it last? Thanks for all the help

They do salt in Tenn? Regularly?

I live in Charlotte and the only salt we get is when they get a snow (maybe once a year). That hasn't been an issue. Unlike the northeast where I had my son's Mazda Fluid Filmed in Mass when he took it up there for school.

If you go to fluid film website they have a location finder. I also called them and they keep a list of places also.

So you are saying the amount of snow here is minimal? I am not familiar with this area/climate as I have lived in Florida for the past 25 years and am originally from Buffalo NY the snow capitol of the U.S.

Ask the neighbors if they salt the roads regularly in your area during the winter.

If not, fluid film is a waste.

I'm in the Piedmont which gets nearly no snow, but the mountains do get more snow. But even then, I don't think the mountains get a tenth of what they do in the rust belt.

The humidity during summer and pretty consistent rain might make you consider fluid film I’m from out west and the 4th gen I bought was from California but has been living here in Middle TN for about six years— and I’d say it’s definitely sped up the rust on the frame. Let me know if you have any luck and what you get quoted!

    Just beginning!
I think a 16oz spray can is about 12.00... You would need about 6 cans to do the entire underside and inside the frame. Another 2 will cover inside the doors/hatch, rockers, fenders and quarters. Overall, about 2 hours of your time. Personally, I use Woolwax (black) thicker, stays on longer, and ususally comes with extended spray nozzles. Do some reading and try it yourself...

    welcome!!
As a life long Tennesseean and living half my life in middle Tennessee I don’t think you need it done. Yes we get some snow and they do salt/brine the roads but the weather and the amount of salt isn’t going to rust it out. I tend to keep my vehicles a while and have never had an issue with rust. I just give mine a thorough wash down especially the undercarriage after all the snow/ice melts.
Let’s be honest, it might be cold and snowy for a week but it will be 50s the next week - that’s just Tennessee weather.
Hope this helps and saves you some money to use for other things.
