Wondering if anyone has removed the x-reas system from a 4th gen ? Toyota tells me it can be done, but they won't do it. have 4 wet shocks/struts and the dealer wants a boatload of money to replace them. would like to switch to standard suspension. Can get Bilstein shocks for a whole lot less.

you can do it easily. loosen all the fittings on the lines and remove them from the frame, re-use the factory top plate and rubber spring isolator from the front coilover onto the new front bilsteins and simply bolt in the new rear bilsteins. Barely harder than a standard shock replacement, just requires the slight extra time to remove the xreas components.
I recommend the Bilstein 5100s as replacements
