Earlier today I took the trek out SC-378 to check out a segment of the South Carolina Adventure Route (SCAR). It hasn't rained very much in the past few days so I figured there would be minimal mud, however, I was wrong!

There where a few close calls (mostly to do with my highway tires struggling in the deep mud) but it was overall manageable. I locked my center diff for good measure but never put it in 4LO, nor did I have to use A-TRAC.

The southern most third of the trail, leading from Arthur Gayle Road, onto Foxville, was very well maintained. The picture above is from that segment and gives you and idea to the road conditions to the trail head. Everything north of the trailhead is much more bumpy and has numerous muddy areas like the first picture of this post.

At one point I saw a sedan out there which was rather surprising. I have no idea how he made it in there, lets hope he made it out! There are also some cool ponds and streams, as well as a railroad, along the trail. Makes for some neat scenery:

I would have done some hiking on the Palmetto Trail (there is a trailhead on the route) but I needed to be back in town.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trail and will probably return and do the road in reverse to see how that changes things. There where a few places which had steeper slopes but it was mostly flat.

If you know of any fun places to explore in the Sandhills region of SC, LMK! I'm always looking for more places to adventure.
