I'm here to echo a few points in this post. I'm about a year into having the OEM + kit with amp and sub. I feel like the bass out of the front 6x9 is overpowering the rear sub at times (depending on what I'm listening to). And as a result the sub, while very clean and OEM looking, lacks that punch I'd expect from a sub. If I would do it again, I'd just leave out the sub and order the speakers and amp as I'm still pleased with the sound from the speakers and the plug and play aspect of the kit was very appealing to me.

Amen. I last week installed Morel Tempo Ultras along with a Morel 400.4 amplifier and while the SQ is astonishingly improved, H/U is definitely holding things back.
Glad I went with Dynamat off the rip as well.

No doubt adding a subwoofer is going to be transformative, but kinda leaning towards DSP with something like Audiocontrol’s solutions really looking likely.

Also, especially for those with very recent 5th gens, that the idea of all this could be disconcerting. Would highly recommend, especially if adding amplifiers, to choose your installer carefully unless your DIY skillz are sharp. A big advantage of good installers is they have all the toys to take apart and put them back together.

I just ran my speakers off the stock head unit, just bought aftermarket speakers that were plug and play with a harness.
Replaced them all with speakers that can handle a high wattage and now I can just turn my head unit up to 100% and never get distortion or worry about blowing a speaker. I'm sure they're still under powered a little, but dam get loud.
    That's an option too.

I did my 2021 Non-JBL system speaker replacement as such:

    - Front Dash: Kenwood Excelon KFC-X2C (4ohm) with high pass cap at 800hz / 12ohm 100W wire wound resistor in series
    - Front Doors: Infinity Kappa 693M (3ohm)
    - Rear Doors and hatch: Infinity Kappa 62ix (2.5ohm)

Completely Dynamat'ed all doors and hatch and cut a Dynapad and install it under the cargo area carpet.

This killed the overly bright front sound stage.
I now have very balance system and keep my fader dead center and the built in 3 channel EQ flat.
The sound stage is very "encompassing" and with reasonably well made recordings it sounds very nice - even my audiophile friends have commented positively.

NOW if I could just keep the HU from alphabetizing the + 9,000 FLAC files in the albums on my flash drive I would be in great shape...
It's a bit crazy as my 2019 4R Limited JBL system does NOT alphabetizing the 320kps MP3 files (in 2019 the systems couldn't read FLAC files) in the albums on my flash drive.

    Kenwood KFC-1396PS Tail Gate
Kenwood KFC-1665S Rear Doors - Kind of cheaped out on this set and wish I had gone a little more quality, but they can still easily handle 100% of the power the stock unit puts out.

I just put Dynaudio esotec components throughout my S4 and they sound incredible. I listened to both focal and dynaudio intently and while they're great speakers, focal (across their entire line) seem to have a metallic tinge to me...

Dynaudio just sounded so good that I went with them. Granted, we all perceive sound in our own way. just my $0.02.

Like your style and had those in a earlier 4Runner. Dynaudio is fantastic and is probably my favorite tweeter in the business.

For 5th Gen applications, I do think that the Morel 6x9 component set is tough to beat simply owing to the lack of quality components in this size. Really wish Focal offered a higher quality 6x9 set.

Yeah, the Reference set really brings the sound stage all up to the front seats. With it at 50%+ volume I can't hear the back at all unless I balance it out, which then just really lowers the volume of the front speakers, which then reduces any bottom end.

This is the reason why I put a 12ohm 100W resistor in series on the dash speakers. Effectively attenuating the dash by ~10db. Now I can keep full power to the front speakers in the door (centered fader) and still hear the presence of rear doors and hatch speakers.

Seriously considering this setup…how did you like the Audiomobile GTS 10? Can you compare it to any other subwoofers from experience? What amp were you running? Did it rattle your molle shelf? Sorry, can’t find any reviews on these! Lol

I bought 2021 full package from someone on this forum and installed it in 2019. If you're doing all the install yourself, well worth it for the ease of plug and play. I do think however you can get more quality for your $. The sub also didn't fit as it was for a 3rd row 4runner so sold it and wired in a down-firing 11 inch sub. Everything is great no complaints thus far, besides maybe the amp falling off from under the seat every once in a while.
