Ouch. That sucks man. Bummer. Least it's on the passenger side so it doesn't stare at you like mine does lol. I'm slowly getting over it though.

When it rains it pours...found a couple ripple dents on the hood like someone rested their knuckles there or something. Oh well, time to stop fretting and move on I guess

    RTT, Hood scoop LED
After much research I installed a plasmaglow black light, LED strip in my hood scoop. This is my first time doing any sort of DIY work on my rig. Slowly trying to improve and build my skill set to become self reliant when it comes to my 4runner. Turned out to be a tad more intensive then I thought but the end product looks great. Gonna do the final wiring tonight but the strip is in and works great.
I scoured this site to find any info from people who have done the same but didn't find anything. Only a few on some Tacoma Sites. Figured it would be a good project since the scoop isn't functional.

First, pop out the hood scoop (easy enough). Pop out the faux, POS plastic. and trace the shape on a patterend piece of mesh.
    unnamed.jpg unnamed-2.jpg unnamed-1.jpg
    unnamed-3.jpg
after its traced, I just went through with some needle nose pliers and my hands and bent the mesh to be best of my ability. Shaping it around the existing plastic piece I removed and aligning it in the scoop making sure things were flush and even and whatnot. After I got the shaping, fit and size right I spray painted the mesh black and glued the LED bar in. First taping the holes on the inside of the scoop so no rain got into the engine. The LED strip was white so I decided to wrap the gaps between the lights with black electrical tape so it wouldn't be as easy to see once the screen went on.
    unnamed-4.jpg
    unnamed-6.jpg
The hardest part was the glueing the mesh to the scoop. I actually did this whole process twice. Once with silicone (which left a real boogery type residue) and the second time with epoxy. Better end product but harder to apply. I was anxious to get this up and done so I may have rushed during the end but aside from a few thick epoxy areas it looks damn good. Unless you're really looking for the blemishes it looks great so Im happy. Now to figure out the wiring harness.

Also for that viper system, does it shut off when you unlock the car like the factory system?

Your 4Runner looks great. Did you lifted it? Or just level the front?

Well a little update on my tailgate saga. The insurance inspector came out today and agreed that it needed new everything and to start over at square one. New estimate shows everything (shell, glass, trim parts etc). Only concern is the tailgate shell is listed as OE surplus and is about $30 less than MSRP. The inspector says it's a price matching number, but the part will be dealer OEM and the shop owner say thy only use OEM new parts. I don't want anything non OEM new used.

When they get all the parts, before you drop the truck off, inspect the tailgate. If you feel it's not OEM or is a "scratch and dent" item, refuse it. You have the right, however, in the fine print, your insurance company also has the right to use aftermarket.

I fully intend to. The shop isn't a preferred vendor cause he caters to the customer and not insurance. He promised only new OEM parts.

That's the shop you want. The customer comes first, not the insurance company. You pay your insurance every month for years and years. Now let them pay you back some of that money.

Thanks for the warning! However it's a little late, I got the $Runner because of this forum!! Everyone was right...It is a pretty awesome vehicle. Once I get my bank account out of ICU I intend to start upgrading. Right now I can at least afford a can of bedliner to cover the shinny parts!

Where are you upstate NY? Born and raised on Long Island. Spent every summer at the KOA in Newburgh as a kid and now still go there every summer with my kids. Parents still come also which is awesome.

A question to everyone.. Did anybody care about voiding their warranty by upgrading the suspension?

Lifting your truck doesn't void any warranty other than the fact they of course won't warranty the parts you install.

Perfect, that's what I thought. So after hiding the shinny stuff I will upgrade the suspension.

Hey everyone, I have a question on roof racks. I canoe a lot and would like to know if anyone uses the original racks for canoe transport. Secondly, I'd like some opinions on an aftermarket rack. There is a lot of info out there, I'm hoping for more recent/firsthand experiences. Thanks!
