    Hi All,
Noob here and looking for someone with experience on the following.
I'm looking to improve my limited 2016 winter tire selection, possibly with a plate lift to fit larger tires and smaller wheels. Is anyone happy with the plate lift? It's economical and I only want enough room so that I have access to more tire options. Current running the open country on the 20" rims, they rub a bit.
    Thank you,

    Welcome..!!

Sorry no experience with winter tire. But just curious 20in Toyo open country AT3 is bad in winter? Just asking since I'm interested in them.

Here is my '16 with Rough Country 2" front/ 1" rear spacer lift. Ride is still smooth as stock (because it pretty much is). Cost was $140, installed it in my garage in about 4 hours. It does what it is meant to do and I have zero complaints. That doesnt mean I will be taking it on any major trails but to lift the vehicle, its perfect. I have about 1" of rake front to rear. Tires are 275/70/17. No rubbing on turns after the lift (slight rub in reverse at full lock both sides). If you dont plan on doing any offroading other than an occasional dirt road, It should be plenty for you.

Dirtrcr13, thank-you. That is what I'm just what I'm looking for. I do light off road, but need a soft tire selection and the small lift will help. I was worried about handling due to some comments on plate lifts. Great to know a bit more!

I erred, I have les schwab open range. I had the toyos on an f250. Both are good, especially in slush. Mine are getting towards replacement, and they aren't pure ice tires, meaning not the softer winter rubber that is winter only rubber. I'd put the toyos on now that I know the plate lift will work. They are a more open tread than open range.

Spacer or plate lifts are not as bad as a lot of people make them out to be.
There are 2 types of spacer kits.
One goes between the spring at either the bottom perch (Westcott) or upper perch ( Daystar and others). These compress the spring a little more than stock to achieve lift.
The other goes between the top hat and shock mount repositioning the shock downward to achieve lift.
For what they are intended for, they work perfectly. But they are far from an ideal off road suspension set up.
There are are a lot of common misconceptions about them though.
1.Its a suspension upgrade. Nothing is correct about that statement. It does nothing but increase your ride height so nothing is "upgraded."
    2. It makes your ride better/ worse than stock. It does nothing to shock damping. If you use one that compresses the spring, as long as you dont over compress the spring, you will barley notice if at all.
