Currently own a 4th gen with 228,000 miles. Have only completed routine maintenance, with one major fix on transfer case automatic 4 wheel drive selector. Anyone else with updates on major maintenance issues on the 4th gen?

sounds like you don't need to worry too much, yours has run for a while! is it a v6 or v8?

not sure what year yours is, but one thing to keep an eye on in '03-05 V6s is the head gasket. lots of issues with blown head gaskets during those years that seemed to be nonexistent with '06+. otherwise the 1GR-FE is solid as a rock. it's used in tacomas and FJ cruisers as well. keep up your maintenance and this truck will treat you well!

3" lift but mostly all stock not a scratch on it it is pristine condition amazing for being 19 years old.
the only thing you should have to do is the following timing belt and water pump idler pulleys every 100.000 miles and you are over 200.000 miles you need ball joints shocks front wheel bearings flush your radiator add new fluid 50/50 depending on where you live and check your half shafts for cracks or grease being flung out that is what i had to do to mine at 230.500 i also serviced the trans new fluid from toyota and filter

My wife used to own a 2003 4Runner which was purchased brand new, driven off the lot back in 2003 but has since passed it on to our sister. It has well over 230,000 miles on that V6 engine. Now my wife drives a 2016 4Runner.

But what I would like to know is, does anyone know the torque values for the small bolts/screws that hold the valve cover gaskets?
Like poster #4 said (grave) the valve cover gaskets are known for leaking, etc. for those years V6 on the 4Runner.

    Thank you for any help!
