Hey there! So, in your discussions, have you found that the Limited trim is able to be Tuned? I was curious as I have a 22 Limited that I want to get tuned as well. Coincidentally I am up in central WA as well... Thanks!

If you have an OBD code reader device of some sort, you should be able to confirm your ecu ID for us to determine if your Limited is supported; most can identify ECU info. Alternatively, you could meet up with Tony for him to identify your ecu ID.

I've been meaning to post this sooner, but I've been busy with work.

I met up with Maynard from MCBautotech in Houston and got the AD 87 tune on my '22 ORP. I don't have any test numbers to back anything up, but there was definitely a noticeable difference in driving. I guess the best way to describe it is it just "gets up and goes" as soon as you press the gas pedal. Immediately following the tune I towed a trailer (about 2000-2500 lbs) for 1200 miles and while it wasn't effortless, it didn't do bad.

Surprisingly my highway MPG's with the above mentioned trailer, gas tanks on roof (5 gallon total), RCI sliders and aluminum gas tank skid plate, E load 265/70R17 tires - was about 18 mpg.

It still isn't a race car, and I wasn't expecting it to be, but I'm very happy with the way it drives now. It makes me wonder why they didn't come from the factory this way.

I know the above is all based on "feel" and the only hard numbers I really have are the MPG's, but I don't think I'd have an easy time going back to a stock 4Runner.

Hi @mZiggy , for my 5th gen T4R, does it matter what my ecu id is, for ordering your remote tune pack?

Also, I’m eying the Weekend Warrior, does that include a tune for 87 Oct and a premium tune, what tunes are included?

    Hello, thanks for reaching out.

Your ECU ID sort of matters, but what's more important is providing us with accurate vehicle information upon request (when you reach out to us via email if you'd like to proceed with purchase), because the 4Runners have different ECU IDs depending on model year and drivetrain (2wd, 4wd, Limited w/ full time 4wd).

Once we have that information, the tunes we provide will be for the most up to date ECU version for your vehicle. This may require an ECU update on your part (which our tune guide supplement document provides additional information on).

Our tune packs include both our WW and AD tune versions, with regular and premium fuel versions of both.

That got sidelined for a bit due to personal schedules, work schedules getting very busy for a bit there, and while we were troubleshooting error codes on our wideband AFR as well as confirming with VFTuner that a bug that was discovered in one of the tune tables for our test vehicle's ECU wouldn't affect the integrity of the tune when flashing (although it is a table we'd like to make changes to during tune testing). That all ate up some considerable time but we should be resuming here soon.

Just purchased the tune for my 4Runner limited today and was wondering that because this is available if it differs in response to the other trim models. Aka how will a limited 4Runner respond differently than other trims if at all?

    No differently.

Since there's only one ECU for 2010-19 that has the shift tables, it's not really worth implementing the shift logic for just that one specific model year and trim, unless people want it (just 2015 Lim as far as I've seen).

If those guys want the shift logic we developed for 2020+, by all means let me know and I'll add it in, but everyone else is SoL unfortunately

Gotcha I misread it as the limited trims had that available, my bad! Looking forward to the tune nonetheless!

Hi @mZiggy, looking at adding a CAI to my 2018 5T4R. Currently running your WW tune. After installing the CAI, do I simply run the Clear ECM and then the Clear TCU, in OVFTune, to allow it to re-learn with the CAI?

Also, quick update/review on the tune: I have a 2018 5T4R TRD Off-Road, with Ripp Coil Packs and a K&N oiled filter, along with Falken Peak 32” AT tires. Running the YotaWerx Weekend Warrior 87 Oct, for the last month. it was easy to install and feels like a new truck. Effortlessly ‘floats’ under 60, hardly any pedal needed to hit that sweet spot. Under 60, I’m plus 2-3 mpg. At highway speeds it seems to be a wash for mpg (though I drive 80+), but so much more responsive and enjoyable at all speeds. My Runner has always been inefficient on the highway VS country road cruising. In general, it feels like a rally truck, now. Best mod, for the money!

    Thanks for the feedback/review!

Regarding the intake, unless it's sized outrageously or something (most intakes don't require adjustments) you shouldn't really even need to be worried about clearing learned values but if you'd like to do a Reset ECM on it, it won't hurt anything either. If you elect to do so, just open the Flash Tool and hit Reset ECM. Hitting Prepare ECM will force you to flash the truck prior to doing resets, it doesn't let you jump the line once Prepare is selected.

Had the privilege of meeting Trey (IG @flatland.adventure ) this evening while he's in town visiting family. He recently tuned his 2012 4R Limited with our tune pack and VFTuner flash kit bundle and has been enjoying the benefits.

It was great to meet up and chat about how YotaWerx got started, as well as plans for the future moving forward for both himself and us, and some trail/camping recommendations.

We love engaging with the community just like this, because at the end of the day we're enthusiasts too, just as much as you are.

If you look closely, you'll also see one of the youngest #yotawerxpups Xena, hanging out with us and getting some exposure to new faces. Lol

Welcome to the #ywtcommunity sir and thank you for taking the time to come out! Here's to new friendships and safe travels

Wanted to take the time to thank everyone who supported us through the holidays and were patient as we worked to get all requests taken care of and flash kits shipped out during stock shortages, both from us directly and across the network, as well as those who have supported us from the beginning since we introduced our 5th gen 4Runner tune in 2021 for 2010-19MY, and continued to show patience and show their support as we eventually were able to bring 2020+ support to the community as soon as it was made available by VFTuner in the summer of 2022.

2022 was a big year for YotaWerx and for 4Runner tuning support as a whole, and we've got some big stuff planned to make 2023 even more exciting.

    Thank you!

I cannot remember if this was updated following this post, but awhile back VFTuner added the 2005 vvti 4.7L support.

K-line protocol for non-vvti 4.7L is in the works from VFTuner, but unclear on when that will be made available to us within the software.

Lots with more in the works
So there IS some hope that I can eventually tune my 2003 4runner V8!

We recently (like a week or two ago) got access to the non vvti (K-line) ECUs. That said, support is limited and there's several ECU versions, meaning we cannot guarantee that YOURS is supported (unless you identified it for us and even then, no promises...most OBD code reader devices can do so).

We do have a means to ensure support, but I need to reach out to VFTuner regarding implementing it. This basically involves requesting the most up to date ECU version is supported (it currently isn't), because then you could update your ECU with Toyota Techstream (or try to get your dealer to do it), and then we'd provide the tune for that ECU ID. This also eliminates the need to support the several possible ECU versions by just requiring that customers update their ECU. I have the files needed to do this, I'll submit them to VFTuner.

We actually already use this practice/policy for other vehicles as it is.

I'll reach out to VF tonight regarding this.
