Trying to order new wheels online but can't decide if i need a 0 or -12 offset which would push the wheel out more?

I like a little poke maybe an inch.

    07 3-4" lift with 285/70 17

Negative offset pushes the tire/wheel out past the fender.

Yes, but how would I find out if 0 or -12 would look better without trying it on.

Short of google image search, I don't see how you will know what looks better.
I would search the wheels and offset.

Go with -12. Look at the RRW website and see their pictures explaining the different offsets so that you see the poke in each. Their explanation is pretty good. However, be mindful that depending on the tire and wheel you choose, there will be some trimming you might have to do. Good luck.

I had 17x8" -10mm offset wheel and added 1.25" spacers to get a good poke.

I changed the wheels to a 17x9" -25mm offset and I think it's perfect how it sits now. Good 1" possibly 1.5" poke.
