Trip coming up, Recommendations

Newbie here, my family and I are traveling to Salida Colorado next weekend. We have a few extra days before the rest of the family meets up. So we thought let's go look at Moab Utah for a day or so. If any of you have any advice, tips, tricks, or trail recommendations I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your time!

 

Recovery equipment, first aid kit, plan your route ahead of time, let people know where youre going and when! No amount of preparation is too much, even on mild trails you never know what could happen. Moab is well traveled so you're likely to encounter other people on your travels

 

What do you mean by recovery equipment? can you be more specific and please give example of the must have ones?

Well, I bought a 4Runner Limited 6 months ago and now I'm getting ready to do a road trip from NY to Alaska and down West Coast to CA and back. I'll be leaving in about 2 weeks (7/15) and thinking 2-3 months depending on how things go.

It's gonna be an adventure trip. Setting up a Roof top tent, refrigerator, fuel/water jerry cans, satellite phone etc and will try to stay away from hotels as much as possible. I'm hoping to use back roads/scenic roads/ forest roads/dirt/gravel/trails and etc. Pulling over by the lakes, rivers/mountains and also State/National Parks

This week be doing some modifications. A full length rack. A lift but not sure if I'll go with a 3" suspension kit (OME 3" or something similar) or a leveling kit... what do you think?

Changing wheels, going from 20" to something like 275/70/17. What do you think about the TRD pro Wheels?

Maps Maps Maps? how do I obtain off road, trails maps? Buy a tablet and download maps to it or GPS? Should I contact local groups for tips?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

its tough to say exactly what youll need because i don't know the trails, but things like straps, blocks, pulleys, a hand winch can be hugely beneficial, ground anchor, tire deflator, some sort of air to reinflate (power tank, viair, arb). this manufacturer has basically anything and everything off road recovery related you could need, it comes down to a judgement call on your part as to whether or not you think youll need certain things

take a set of ball joint and the tools you may need to change them if they fail the most common ball joint to fail is the lower one only takes 15 min to replace vary easy 4 bolts and your done make sure you grease the drive lines with synthetic grease it water resistant and holds up vary well in harsh condition and change out you gear oil to 75-90 synthetic oil for front and rear axles and transfer case never use 90 weight oil in you toyo flush out your radiator for any contaminants and if your timing belt has over 100.000 miles on it change it with new pulleys and new water pump the timing kit only cost about 200 with the water pump and idler pulleys and tensioner pulley and my shop guy only charged me 350 to instal it. i know it seems like a lot but if you want your trip to go without any problems this is what you got to do. good luck stay safe and have fun.
