So I've done some yogoogly and found a few threads on the other forum but not much here on the coastal offroad rear bumper. Anybody have one and willing to share your experience?

Been looking a lot at hitch mounted spare tire carriers since cancelling my DOM order but I've also been eyeing up the low profile dual swingout in aluminum. I used to work with a really good metal fabricator that I think could weld for me.

They are solid. Not the prettiest, but better than some other brands.

    I would prefer C4 > NGUYEN WORKS > SSO

But may end up with a coastal from a friend

The C4 does look really good but I'd like aluminum for corrosion resistance and weight savings. Nguyen works is a little too low pro for me - I think it also requires cutting rear cross member? I know they have two versions but can't remember the specifics. SSO (Southern Style offroad?) doesn't have a rear but they are making a hitch mount carrier designed by someone on the other site. The only other aluminum rear I've seen is bud built and it's expensive with a huge lead time.

I probably just need to stick with hitch mount if I do anything. I just don't want to significantly reduce departure angle with one so coastal looked like a possible option.

Sorry, it’s Sunday night drinkin for me. Hefty fab is best for aluminum, but pricey as hell. And I meant shrockworks, not SSO.

go with a full rear - or you’ll be like me and sell your swing out hitch mount later on for a full :)

I’m getting a demello, don’t believe the cross member needs cut and it looks solid!

Sunday night drinking for me too obviously - I meant hefty fab not bud built for the finished aluminum bumper. Not super crazy about their swing arm design either.

That's one thing I wouldn't want to do. I don't mind chopping up plastic because I can replace it easily myself but start hacking parts off with a plasma cutter (like rear cross member) and there's no going back to stock.

Just wanted to throw this in here since I just finished my bumper this weekend.
I went with the low profile bumper only kit, but bought a separate full length swing out from another vendor. I wasn’t interested in having a dual swing or a half swing.
I absolutely love the outcome with the project, although it took me way longer than expected! From start to finish it took me 3 weekends to get it done. I borrowed a welder from a friend and taught myself how to weld. By the time I got decent at it I was more than halfway through it, which made me go back and redo some of the work. Melding the two different pieces together was a challenge of it own, but after lots of adjustments and measuring it all came together. I’m a big fan of problem solving especially challenges in building and fabricating but this one was worth the effort!
I added some extras while I was at it, put a tailgate light along the back also added some running lights for trail riding.
And used a hinge from 4xInnovations.
Ended up painting it myself to save money on powder coat. Used POR15 topped with spray-on bed-liner. Final outcome looks like a powder coat! We’ll see how it holds up!

There is a member that put a coast bumper and posted about it a while back. I think the coastal looks great from a design standpoint.

I also like the Demello option that will be coming out. It will be interesting to find out more details about it.

What a wonderful piece of work you have done here bud! This looks awesome. I have been wanting to do this myself (the install at least) but I am just afraid I don't have the tools and the manpower needed for the adjustments. You nailed this one! Congrats.

Thanks for posting! Great job for your first time welding! Unfortunately I don't have the testicular fortitude to try a project like this for my first project. I'm still exploring hitch mounted tire carrier options with this in my back pocket for future.

I assume you went with steel? Another hesitation of mine is I'd want aluminum and that's much more difficult to weld from what I've read. Wish I still worked in manufacturing - I could probably bribe one of the welders to do this project for a case of beer.

It might take more than a case of beer… ;):p The coastal kits seem to be set up nicely to reduce the need to cut or shape metal, but the last thread I saw on the guy who put one together sure did seem to make it look closer to fab than it is to welding only. Lots of fitting, adjusting, etc…

I probably should have mentioned that I sat on this kit for about a year before finally getting around to having the confidence to get started! Lots of YouTube videos and a little instruction from another novice welder. Best of luck with whatever you decide, but it’s doable as long as you’re willing to learn and have the time to chip away at it.

Projects like this are often the best way to learn. It looks like excellent work!
Question: wasnt a 100percent sure, it’s jigged using the frame, but nothing gets welded to the frame right? Is it still completely removeable?

Yes, it’s completely removable. Only part you can’t turn back is cutting the plastic bumper.
