This is his newest setup which I haven't had time to check in detail when I met him in July.

    That's a good looking bumper!

Too much lift for those little tires, though. :p

Wheel width, offset, and individual tire all affect fitment.

I first ran LT285/70R17 Cooper Evolution MTs on stock rims. I added a cheap Daystar 2.5" lift and did minor trimming of the forward fender lip and used a heat gun on the mud flap. No rubbing.

I then tried the new Goodyear Ultra Terrain in the exact same size on the same factory rims. But, they are a true 33" and I had to do some more minor trimming to get them to fit.

Then I decided to upgrade to aftermarket rims. I bought Vision Flow bronze rims in 17x9 with a -12 offset off of the Discount Tire online site and shipped to my home. When they arrived, it finally dawned on me that they were 9" wide with a -12 offset; look awesome, but might have some issues.

I took them to the nearest Discount Tire for install and asked the tire tech if these were going to rub. He assured me they wouldn't. I improperly assumed that this meant that they would mount a front tire and test fit it. Nope.

I picked up the vehicle as they were closing and couldn't believe the amount of rubbing. I was a bit pissed that they lied, but decided it was my fault for ordering the wrong rims in the first place and decided to fix it myself.

    On the way home...

So, I had to do more trimming and fender liner melting, and they still rub.

But, hoping to upgrade to a winch bumper that will eliminate the rubbing at the front, which is the worst. Will likely do a more severe trim job in the meantime now that I bought out the lease.

But, the wider rims and negative offset give the 4Runner the meatiest and most aggressive look, IMHO.

they do look good, but come with a lot of grief.
