While going to work on on the morning of 9/22 I hit one that jumped right out in front of me. The timing of the impact was almost perfect in that it destroyed my front end squarely into the radiator and pushed it back.

It took just over a month to fix in the shop. Started tear down 10/12, and the final pickup (after little unfinished headaches) was 11/1.

    $38700 later paid by SF:

    /sigh/

    Still runs great! LOL

    How big was this Deer/Elephant?
$38k .... why wasn't this just written off and sold on Copart?
T4R body parts are low priced.

Looks like new! Seems like this time of year(fall) in Wisconsin, every time you drive a vehicle, you have a 50/50 chance of hitting a deer. The percentage goes up as you drive each mile! Doesn't seem to matter time of day either. Anyway, you got it fixed so... drive on!

My 4R is still in the shop from my deer hit on 10/3. It will be another month before I most likely get it back. Parts for mine are in the $10-12K range so far. The drivers fender and inner apron were destroyed, and they have to strip much of the interior so they can weld a new apron to the firewall without setting it on fire. You have to wonder how well it will be put back together and the longevity of all the other systems that were removed and replaced during the repairs will be.

Insurance companies usually write off vehicles as a total loss vehicle when the estimate reaches approximately 60% of the vehicles value depending on the insurance company it could be less

I hit a deer Oct., 2022. The winch bumper w/bull bar saved my 4R from that kind of damage. Only problem was the license plate frame was bent. I hit it at 55 mph, between the headlights. Guess that bumper paid for itself that day.

Edit: The expanded aluminum was installed by me. The bumper doesn't come that way from the factory.

    It was delicious.

So, would the insurance cut the check to the shop, or the owner? Assuming the mechanicals were good, I would have been tempted get rid of a payment, pull as much of it straight, and slap on some cheap panels!

Yes. The first visual quote was around 31k. It went up when they took it apart. All of the airbags except the passenger front/knee went off. $$$$$

It was a nice young buck...His dang head and neck put a twisted dent on the driver side of the hood that boggled my mind on how it didn't get knocked out! He bounced off and slid sideways and ran off into the field.

Thank goodness not totaled...it didn't need to be. In WI the amount is around 70%. SF was willing to go to 40k until totaled. But, even so, I would have paid money to continue above 40k since my loan is about 1.65%.

I almost hit another buck tonight on the way home from work. I had to work late and the bastard was wandering in the road dumb as a door nail. I hate driving at night now. This is the WORST year I have seen in Wisconsin for deer since I see them every time I go into work and when I leave at night.

I've lived in WI for all my 46 years too. This year is the worst!

Wow! Airbag deployments are usually when insurance companies draw the line and call it a total loss. Can't imagine why they didn't just tell you to pick out a new one. And why wouldn't you?

I went to a Toyota Certified shop in Middleton WI - Ball Body Shop. They are an approved body shop in SF's network. Everything was automatic and the checks go directly to the shop.

I only had 8500 miles on it since I bought it last December. That's one BIG reason why SF paid bank to get it fixed. It was practically still brand new. LOL

Car loan interest rate. I pay 1.68% now, compared to a new loan of about 5% at the same bank.

And nothing beats the rarest and my favorite 4R color: ARMY GREEN

That road looks familiar! I guess all roads in WI look the same. Farms, corn fields, and deer everywhere!

And I'm looking to get a bumper&bull bar setup like yours, except one that goes higher for the TSS and MTM camera. I've found one, 1-1.3k.

Thats a good testimony for getting a winch and/or bull bar. Hitting an animal when driving at night is definitely one of my biggest worries.

These first couple weeks of Nov. are BAD for bucks wondering around in a daze. By us (Clark Co.), the bucks are starting to chase the does around, start of rut. I would like to win the Powerball but, having the dollar amount of the damage to vehicles because of deer hits wouldn't be bad either!

I will never forget growing up and hunting the woods on a farm. There were huge bags of red poison corn all over. Not sure if it was to thin the herd or what I was squirrel hunting.
