Towing 3000 lbs and swaying issues?

    Has anyone experienced swaying while towing TT weighing in at 3000lbs? I've read a bunch out there...some towing w/o WD and <3500 lbs and some w the WD. No one one really mentions anything about swaying. Is my understanding wrong that if you stay under the max 5000 lb tow cap (our TT weighs in at 1950 lb dry CampLite double axel) you shouldn't need WD hitch? I normally tow it w my 2012 Taco double cab w airbags. It has a longer wheelbase than my wife's 4Runner so that's why I ask. I have no trouble w my Taco. Thanks all for your input...

    Idk, but I am guessing tongue weight has something to do with it. Since, you run airbags on your taco and the 4runner doesn't have air bags, there's a lot of sagging at the hitch. It changes how things tow. You may need a WD hitch on the 4runner.

    Installed Rago brackets and 4" cube ditch lights. Weather tech mats. Cargo net. Cargo mat. Ordered Gobi rack with ladder.
    I agree. Get the WD hitch and consider it insurance for towing. I've seen many a trailer in the ditch when folks didn't take the necessary precautions.

    There are two parts to the equation: gross weight and tongue weight. Like the others said, the swaying more than likely has more to do with the tongue weight. Gross weight means you just go slow up hills...

    Sway is generally from 2 things. Improper trailer balance, or you're driving too fast.

    The longer wheelbase and leaf springs on the Taco means it is more stable and deals better with the tongue weight. So a marginal trailer balance may not be as noticeable on the Taco, but the shorter 4Runner with less weight friendly coil springs could be making the issue more obvious.

    If the trailer is balanced correctly, try a WD hitch or airbags.
