I am thinking about downsizing pickups and am looking at potentially going from a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Quadcab to a double cab Tacoma. We have a the 4runner for taking trips and mainly use the pickup for hauling stuff around. Has anyone here went from full size pickup to a Tacoma and felt disappointed in the change? The difference in interior size doesn't really bother me as we don't usually have people in the back seat of the pickup at the moment.

Depends entirely on your use case. I have a very active family and our only vehicle was a Tacoma, when we had one; it didn't work for us.
Dog or other people fill the back seat, making it hard to keep items out of the elements (luggage, food for potlucks, groceries, etc).

If you only plan to use it as a 1-2 occupant vehicle, and only primarily to haul, I think you'd be fine. Your MPGs will probably only slightly improve (I sat around 17 in my Double Cab 4x4 V6).
Tacomas are solid, reliable vehicles. You'll know from one test drive if you like it or not.

Note: I upgraded to a new Tundra and LOVE it.

I’d consider the 6 foot bed, spend some time on tacoma world, lots of folks went from 3rd gen taco to full size, many folks complaining about how gutless the taco is. Go test drive one, and test drive some more. Maybe find one to rent and check out.

We test drove a 2022 trail edition tacoma. I like having the extra space of a full size but I also like the idea of how much easier it is to get around places in the smaller vehicle. I tend to drive like an old man so I didn't notice a lack of power on the test drive. If we had a 6 foot bed one available fairly close, we would be able to pull the trigger a lot easier.

I went from an access cab Tacoma to a Ford crew cab 4dr to a titan 4dr back to a dbl cab Tacoma.

Honestly down sizing from a full size V8 to the Tacoma V6 I do miss the power when I need to haul something with a trailer. That being said the Tacoma handles great with what I’ve hauled with it on a trailer (not a whole lot either as far as load weight)

The honest opinion I have about down sizing was the room of the cab. Our family is just 3 of us, our son is 9 so the rear is not small for him, yet! It is not a big deal to us as we have a 22 4Runner as well so that’s our usual travel vehicle and only really use the Tacoma out of town on trips when we know we are going to be bringing something back that wouldn’t fit in the 4 runner nor do we want to haul it with the 4 runner.

now if u asked about my 87 Toyota truck there is absolutely no room in that for more than 1 passenger

I'm still waiting to hear about my 4Runner a month after hitting a deer, but in the meantime I am driving a '15 Silverado 1500. What a pile of crap. This is the best GM can do? I haven't driven a 3rd gen Taco, but both my 2nd Gens drove better than the Chevy. You might consider the new Frontier as an option. I know that's heresy on a Toyota site, but the reviews on the newest model are excellent.

The new Frontiers are pretty nice looking. My step father just got a 22 pro4x and it is super nice. Pretty much all the new full size pickups have the auto start stop feature and that drives me crazy. I know with the Ford stuff you can get it completely removed from the vehicle but it voids the warranty. That's one of the big reasons I was leaning towards the taco. No start stop nonsense, reliability, and the value retention of them.

I wouldnt do it. I went from a Tundra to a Tacoma and I regret it. I like having more room both inside the truck and in the bed. The Taco also lacks a lot of features even though it is a TRD Pro and it gets basically the same gas mileage. I dont really see any benefit in the smaller truck.
