Initiation Day - First Big Storm

In true Colorado May fashion we got an Upsloper that has dumped over 2' wet sierra cement snow on our mountains. Life at 9,000'. By Sunday it'll be mudfest.

Hubby and I had toyed with the crawl control in some snow mounds last week, and I am glad we did. Our driveway is pretty steep up to our garage and upon return this afternoon I got to try it out again. 4Low made it 110' of the 120' 2' deep driveway and CC made it the last 10'. So awesome!! No action shots but here's a few afterwards. Then the fun began with the snowblower. 2 hrs and got a good amount cleared. Enough for my daughter to safely take the 4R to work tomorrow.

I'm sure it wasn't your first rodeo driving in the snow (being that you live at 9000'), but it was definitely a good idea to practice using the electronic traction functions first.

I see so many 4x4's in ditches because they think just *having* 4wd means you can just drive it normally. You should always just find an empty parking lot or road and practice driving, even if you don't have (actually, especially if you don't have) fancy stability control or traction aides. If nothing else it helps you learn how the vehicle responds (and how you respond) during a loss of control. It's pretty fun, too...

 

Definitely not my first rodeo-LOL Have been snow driving since I was 12. Always took our kids out and let them slide the trucks and cars in a big parking lot too, and both are skilled drivers. The quote I burned into their head growing up was '99% of all ice/snow accidents are because you are going too fast for conditions'. They tried to argue but it sunk in as neither had any crashes - Knock on wood!! And living up here, we always run good snow tires. No sympathy for those who don't - it's no surprise what we are in for every winter!
