The best thing about the FJ shift knob is you can tighten it down snugly without having to line up any letters. I tried a new black oem TRD Pro knob, and I could not get it to stay lined up or tight. It may have been defective - I returned it for a refund.

Hmm weird. I tried removing and reinstalling and I get the same issue. When tight the graphic is completely off by a good 90 degrees or so. Damn it.

There is only one set of threads, it will always 'start' at the same point no matter where you start to turn the knob. One way to index the knob in the propper direction is to wrap the treads with PTFE (Thread Tape) like what is used in piping https://www.lowes.com/pd/Oatey-0-6-in-x-43-ft-Plumber-s-Tape/4751313

Plumbers tape! Awesome idea! I didn't know if it was "safe" for something like that. Good idea. I am going to give it a go. Thank you!

Just did it. Great suggestion, thank you. Worked perfectly. 7 revolutions of plumbers tape and it aligns perfectly. Thanks again!

I just replaced the TRD Shift Knob in our 2022 TRD ORP and didn't need to modify anything. I didn't crank down the FJ Knob, just enough for it to feel tight.IMG_2884.jpg IMG_2885.jpg

This is a great mod. (I did the cutting of center section option). Now the transmission shifter matches the transfer case knob. As long as I was at it I got a bottle of black acrylic paint from the hobby store and filled in the recessed indications. Brush it on then wipe it level with a damp paper towel like a squeegee.

Does the top of the FJ knob sit higher or lower than the original position of the TRD knob?

If I’m remembering it correctly the FJ knob sits a little lower. In any case it’s really comfortable for me.
