Going to the Dogs

Hunny is pretty happy about our morning coffee run

 

Looks like a pointer but something wrong with the tail (

 

BearBio, nothing wrong with the tail. All English Pointers have a full tail. GSP only have a short tail.

 

Also, Pointing Griffons, GWP, GLP (if used for hunting), Vizlas, Brittany spaniels, Weimaraners, etc. That's so they don't injure/break their tails while hunting in thick cover, especially when after big game such as wild boar, deer, etc.

BearBio, yeah, every once in a while my pointers come back with a bloody tail. But, we are in pretty open country and only hunt rabbits or quail.

 

These were taken today. The Hawk never saw a rabbit and only caught 3 lizards. Hot out there.

We hunted mostly chaparral of Socal or central California. or the east Bay area with lots of rosebushes. The GSPs would dive headfirst into rose bushes after pheasant.

While I (we) was with QU, we held "snake breaks" for hunting dogs. Got so popular, we'd have to do 2-3, 2-day sessions each spring. Saved my first GSP while hunting pheasant near Parkfield. I assume your dogs are snake-broken!

BearBio, both my pointers have been bitten by rattlesnakes.

We hunted a ranch in Parkfield. Saw a cow that had been bitten. Whole side of its face was swollen twice the size as the normal size. Survived. Fortunately, many animals have a greater resistance.

My first publication was an article on "Snake Avoidance Training in Canines", published in Quail Unlimited magazine back in 1997 or so (first year of grad school).

 

She got some deer jerky.

 

I just opened some more.

Our Griffon, Faith, is in love with our neighbor Bill. He and his wife were over for dinner last night and Faith was lying on his lap when he noticed her paws were webbed. We told him many European hunting dogs have webbed paws (GSPs, GWPs). The reason is for tracking big game over mud & snow and to aid in swimming while retrieving. He didn't know that.

 

Looks like she wants the WHOLE deer!!

 

Speaking of big, my sisters dog. Irish wolf hound.

 

Mercedes is getting her nails did.

 

Teddy says "Send help this puppy is outta control!"

Side note: They're best buds and no puppies were harmed. Teddy is the chillest dog I've ever had.

 

Aloy is 17 weeks and 34 lbs! The baby is growing fast!

I just saw a K-9 chomp on a guy in a puffy suit and it wouldn’t let go.

 

Aloy is a 40 lb giraffe. Taller than her Pitbull cousin now!
