Hang in there. I was going to suggest you talk to your physician about gabapentin but I see someone already did. I can't diagnose you over the forum but a back injury certainly could be a root cause, and anxiety definitely can magnify symptoms. And PLEASE, if you feel you're still suicidal, please reach out:https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ and/or 1-800-273-8255 .

The MRI of my lower back is perfectly normal, and the emg and nerve conduction tests are also normal. I have no idea what's going on in my feet

If you are a doctor, pl tell me whether low vitamin B12 can be the culprit or not?

I'm diabetic, when my blood sugar was out of control I had lost feeling in my feet except for pain. I had lost sensitivity to hot and cold all over my body.
After going on insulin and get my sugar levels down that all reversed over about a two year period.

I saw a documentary titled something like "zombie alligators" several years ago. The gators were eating fish that contained thiaminase. This destroyed the B vitamin thiamin in the gators body and made them unable to move and they would drown. So yeah, get your B vitamin level up to spec.

Definitely get help. I hear NAMI does good work. Don't give up hope, think of those that love you and need you.

I'm a kinesiotherapist so mainly an exercise guy. I can tell you that B-12 does help with proper nerve function as well as red blood cell production. Exactly how much it affects the nerves depends on whose research you read but it's thought to affect the myelin sheath around the nerves (like the insulation around an electrical wire). a lot of research indicates that even a slight deficit can have negative effects. so yes, it *could* be part of the problem. your doc should be able to check your B-12 level and advise you on whether you should take supplements.

My B12 level was "extremely low". They are giving me B12 injections. Two shots so far, two more to go. Then they will give me oral supplements. Hopefully B12 solves my problem.

Check out Dr Berry's videos This has helped me with numbness in my feet and poor circulation all by just changing what I eat ( mainly cutting carbs and sugar ). I also use topical essential oil blend that "seem to" improve circulation. ALA
My Mom took Gabapentin and said it did not help her leg pain very much. ALA is over the counter and safe.
You want to look at the side effect very carefully with any Rx

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I was diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy back in 2001 or there-abouts. I've been prescribed all sorts of trash. Right now, I've been on Gabapentin since the patent on Lyrica ran out, and it became readily available. Also I take Tramadol and morphine The whole cocktail lets me walk, and get some sleep, at least.

A note: NEVER drop Gabapentin cold turkey if you can avoid it. The withdrawal makes coming off morphine, IE heroin, seem like child's play. If you have to come off the stuff, make sure you get tapered down, not just dropped. All depends on the quality of your doctor. I had one, for ONE appointment, that told me she didn't believe in neuropathy. It's all in your mind, she said. I dropped HER faster that a hot potato.

Good luck, get better. There's no cure, but the pain can be reduced. Eventually, the nerves die vompletely, eliminating the pain. I've been told.

    Pat☺

Dr gave me Gabapentin for Sciatica. After a few months it felt like I had bugs crawling on me. I did a long taper and no problems with withdrawal, I took about a month total.
Fortunately Gabapentin was not helping so having to stop was not an issue.

    Lots of goodies
They know some of the causes of PN and there are a bunch of other suspected causes, and lots of them in both categories are ingested in one form of the other. It is great the Neurontin is working for you, but that is simply treating symptoms. You need to correct the cause. Taking the supplements, particularly the magnesium and turmeric is fantastic, but the very best thing you can do for yourself is force yourself into an absolutely clean diet for 90 days. Zero sugar, zero preservatives, eat only things that are fresh, nothing packaged. Lay off the dairy, the bread, noodles, pasta, rice, tortillas. When you go to the grocery store buy only fresh fruit, nuts and vegetables, fresh lean meats/fish, no cured stuff and nothing fermented or aged. It sounds like torture but it is a short term goal to make it 90 days. Just 90 days and it will completely transform your body and your life and most likely help your PN a whole lot. At the end of the 90 days you will feel so good that you will want to continue eating healthy. There is only one way for you to find out if I am full of crap. Try it.

I have started doing that except I take this for protein, so 2 grams of sugar everyday. I make a giant smoothie with fruits and leafy veggies and put the protein drink in it.

Sorry bro, that stuff is highly processed junk that in reality has probably very little nutrition that your body will recognize and use.

    >You would not knowingly put bad fuel in your 4Runner because it would run like shit and eventually if you kept doing it, would ruin the engine. Think of what you put into your body in those same terms. It IS the same with your body.<
We are being killed by convenience. It is worth the effort to get in the habit of spending a couple hours once a week prepping meals for the week if you are busy so you can quickly heat & eat on the run.
Vinegar and oil are both also very good for you and with some seasonings is a good dressing for salads, can be heated in a pan with a little salt, pepper and honey for a tasty sauce that is good on all kinds of meat (the ancient document called the Bible tells us this, as well as many spices like turmeric, cinnamon, et al). Gotta take care of those feet bro and they are part of the whole. PM me if you would like to talk some. Zero judgement bro, I worked in the dietary scared straight program for 7 years.

    Only the skinny ones!

Second Neurologist said same thing as the first one. No signs of Peripheral Neuropathy. They call my condition "Painful Paresthesia".

    Short portion of the report

"Today neuro exam completely normal without any signs of PN. It is unlikely small fiber neuropathy due to his young age and no hx ETOH."

"hx ETOH" I think means that I am not a heavy drinker.

Hey your dad has small fiber neuropathy, which is not visible on EMG. As you said his EMG was normal.

Gabapentin is not without risk. I would take it very sparingly and only when absolutely needed.

Pain feels worse when you talk about it and think about it. If I have pain, then doctors cannot help, they just give you strong drugs that mask the pain, that's all they do, they cannot heal anything. It's the body that heals, I will keep taking gabapentin and pretend nothing is wrong with me, I will keep taking vitamin supplements and eat good food and get exercise. And I'll just leave everything to my body and God Anyways this is my last reply to this thread

    God bless all you folks

While you're following your current treatment plan for neuropathy, it may be worth considering seeking a second opinion or consulting with other specialists who have expertise in this field. In addition to medical professionals, you may also want to explore the possibility of psychological testing in NYC.

Neuropathy is a complex condition that can have various underlying causes, including physical, neurological, and sometimes psychological factors. While your current treatment plan may be focused on addressing the physical aspects of neuropathy, it's important to consider the potential influence of psychological factors on your symptoms and overall well-being.

Psychological testing NYC can provide valuable insights into your mental and emotional health, helping to identify any underlying psychological factors that may be contributing to your neuropathy or influencing your response to treatment. This type of testing is typically conducted by licensed psychologists or neuropsychologists who specialize in assessing cognitive and emotional functioning.
