I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
My father purchased his shortly after I got mine, he also is retired and likes the step in height as well as the ride. He went with the limited as he also has no plans for offroading. Welcome to the site

OP, if you've driven a truck before for a few years and liked it, I'm guessing you'd like the 4Runner. If not, it would be good to compare the 4Runner with the unibody SUVs out there before making your decision.

    None...yet...
Test drive an SR5 4runner, a limited 4runner, and then test drive a highlander. You will find that the highlander rides more like your camry does and if you like that ride you may like the highlander more. The 4runner in my mind rides more like a truck but is a bit smoother. My comparison truck is a Toyota Tacoma as I have that and my wife has the 4runner. The 4runner will hold its value as will most Toyotas but you should get what feels most comfortable.

I'm, 84, Betty is '70 and, admittedly, we've been accustomed to several other 4x4s in our 26 years together. Last September we traded a loaded '15 Jeep Wrangler JKU 4 dr for a '16 4Runner Trail, and we could not be more delighted. The 4Runner rides and handles so much better, the comfort and amenities are all there, and it is so quiet that we can actually listen to the radio on long trips. It is, far and away, the best 4x4 I've owned since I bought my first brand new Int'l Scout back in 1964. Check it out and, if you want to travel the forest service roads and other trails, it is the way to go. - Cheers, Ted

If I wasn't going offroad I would go with a RAV4 which is what I traded in to get my 4runner. Very nice vehicle, good gas mileage.

I'd agree with the Rav4 if a person is not interested in going very far off the pavement. But, it will be very interesting to see what the Sport version offers. - Ted

One thing to consider is the height of the entry. If you're tall, a stock 4Runner you can just slide right in and out with ease. I'm 5' 10" ('17 SR5, no running boards), and I hop up just a tiny bit to get in, and fall right out no problem. You might get one with running boards (or get aftermarket ones installed for cheaper than the factory ones) to make it easier. I highlander and then even the Rav4 are even lower.

I would consider the Highlander, too.

They're all are great vehicles, but if you don't plan to off road or tow something, I'd look more at the Highlander or the Rav4. They get better mileage than the 4Runners, too.

So really, just head to a dealer and get in and out of all them, drive them, and see what's most comfortable.
