Jack Stands with Wide Saddle

Anyone know of a jack stand that is wide enough for the frame at the front to sit between the ears?

When using my 6 ton stands from Northern Tool, the frame sits on the ears. Don't really love this. Would prefer a jack stand with a saddle that is much wider?

Happy to get some 12 tons but can't find any details on the dimensions of the saddle

 

Rather than a wider saddle, how about flat? I have a pair of these by AC Hydraulic.

I use Hein-Werner six-ton stands. Tray is wide enough for the frame rails.

Heavy as hell and solid construction. Just want you want ;-0

Thanks everyone. I didn't see the 6 ton hein Warners when I was looking, just the 3 ton ones. These are perfect and about 80 bucks cheaper than US Jack's version

 

Just placed my order.

Question: Is it normal to have 7 pairs of jack stands?

Wanted to report back on this.

Just got the Hein Werners today. They are beefy.

Saddle width is 4-3/8" ( inside the ears) seems like it was designed for the front frame of the 4Runner. The frame fits perfectly inside the ears and rests on the flats. The seam weld sits nicely in the concave portion of the saddle as well.

Here are some pics and a visual compare to the 6 ton $50 a pair ones from Northern Tool. The ones from Northern Tool were sold in place of their Strongway red ones for a period of time( I have a pair of those as well same as the ones pictured).

The Hein Werners do not have a locking insert but look like they will be perfect. Better be for almost $200 after tax.

 

I feel that! It’s annoying after a while, especially since I dont have that 10,000sq ft shop of my dreams. But every car over the years has needed it’s own solution it seems…hence the annoying collection.

My neighbors probably like me…lately I’ve just been giving them stuff that’s getting in my way, because I feel too guilty throwing it away lol.

 

I’ve always found a use for the “extra” jack stands. Funny how many reasons you can find to use that that ISNT holding up a car lol

 

One of my pairs is supporting a Dana 44 tucked away until I get time to install it.

I'll settle for 2500 sq ft. For now. It's a 3 car tandem garage.

After moving here, I've learned the definition of "car guy" is different than me. Car guys (people) around here is those that spend insane money on Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches etc... my definition is the ability to fix and modify everything myself. So, none of my neighbors have any tools. I used to be able to borrow them from friends in my neighborhood, if I didn't have it.

I am confident people around think I'm nuts for simply changing my own oil.

I moved to San Jose from Philadephia seven years ago. Had a 3000sf workshop back east I shared with my friends. We built motorcycles, trucks, crazy bicycles, scuptures. Did welding, machining, shade-tree fixes, high-precision work, everything under the sun. Had a blast. We probably had the money to buy replacement parts and vehicles but where's the fun in that.

Out here the car guys I've met are more like your description.

I'm the guy on my block everybody comes to when they have something broken. Usually they come around after they've paid someone to do a poor repair job. I don't take in work but I give advice and teach freely.

I try not to judge. We all have things we're into. Mine just happens to be building, creating, fixing. Proving I can keep old shit running perfecly.

The 4Runner is easy. It's all elective work. Nothing much seems to break. The garage full of panheads, shovelheads and brit bikes is a different story ;-0

@jasonmcelroy we would be good friends in real life. We are very similar.

On any given weekend, my garage can be an automotive repair shop, a metal shop, a woodworking shop, or whatever home improvement project the wife wants done shop.

I work with my brain on a computer all week. I need to use my hands on weekends.

 

After taking a good look at the Hein Werner Jackstands, I was pretty disappointed in them for the premium price point. The saddle flats were not flat and the mold line where the 2 halfs are welded together still was raised on a good portion of each flat. Looked like an 8 year old with a grinder was responsible for prepping the parts. Pkus, the paint was so thin, you could see the iron thru it. My $50 nothern tool jack stands have a nicer finish on the saddle. Anyway, I sent the Hein Werners back.

I ended up ordering a set of US Jack 6 Ton Jack Stands. Made entirely in the USA with USA sourced materials (which I know is ironic since we drive vehicles made in Japan). After tax, they were almost $300. Ouch. But they are well made and will keep me from injury/death. Seems like good insurance. Can't wait to get them.

 

Yes. I have 4 pairs of jack stands and 2 pairs of jack stand dollies in my cramped 2 car garage and at least 4 more pairs in my other small shop. Storing gets to be an issue so been looking at solutions like TMR sells.

 

@ShimStack glad I'm not alone. Fortunately, I have an attic space right above my garage with a folding staircase where car parts and tools like my Jack Stands get stored.
