I have a 2022 4Runner SR5 Premium and I relocated the USB port from underneath the head unit to inside the glove box. Anybody know where I can get a very small blank switch to fill in the hole? The regular Toyota small style switch is still too big to fit in the hole.

Cut a piece of black ABS and fit it in there. Would probably look nice.

When you close the “door” over your usb-c charger, does it click all the way shut? I like how slim the profile is. What brand is it?

@Silversr5 can you share details/pics of your relocated USB to the glove box?

I did not take any pictures when I was relocating the USB port to the glove box. I used the video I linked below as a reference. The reference guide starts at the 1:25 minutes mark and end at 3:05 minute mark. I followed his guide and once I popped the USB port out from underneath the headunit, I routed the wiring harness for it over to behind the glove box. I used a coat hanger that I bended straight to help route the wiring harness. I had to dissemble the bottom panels underneath the glove compartment to get better access to help reroute the wiring harness. The wiring harness is secured below the head unit with a plastic clip, which you will need to un-clip it and leave it off permanently. There is just enough slack in the wiring harness to route it to the glove box. I have a 2022 year model so the USB port is smaller then previous year model. This is due to the fact that the USB port only have a USB port while previous year model have a USB port and a AUX jack connector. With that said, my USB port is too small to fit into the USB port in the glove box. As of now I just have it tucked inside the glove box and not physically snapped into the USB port in the glove box. I hope that all makes sense.

    Thanks @Silversr5 .

I have the Motorola MA1 wireless android auto dongle but still don't love that it hangs out of the usb port on the dash. Would love to just relocate it to the glove box so I don't have to look at it.

BTW - I have a 2021 and it is the same smaller plug like the one you have. Not sure when they removed the aux port but in 2021, it was gone.

Perhaps getting the same port and rewiring it for usb only (non data) would fill that spot well and give you something usable at the same time. Not sure if you can buy it from toyota.

The 4Runner is my Wife's vehicle. Before the USB port relocation mod, she had a USB splitter connected to the USB port. The splitter allow her to run an IPOD and a USB thumb drive at the same time. She didn't like the fact that it was out in the open and was worried about someone breaking into her 4Runner. I ordered an older year model USB port with the AUX jack connector and tried to adapt into the 2022 4Runner but no luck. The connector on the back of each USB port is different style. Also, the wiring harness for each USB port is different as well. I think it can be adapted but it requires cutting into the factory wiring harness which I don't want to do.

I agree. I wouldn't want to cut into the harness either. I was thinking more along the lines of pulling new wires from the fuse box and adding a 12v to 5 volt adapter to wire in a new USB. I know you can get these on Amazon pretty cheap.

Regarding the actual USB connector, I was thinking to buy one like you had in that spot originally so it fits to slot correctly and wiring that to the 12v to 5v adapter.

This way, there would be no cutting of the harness and you would still get a USB in that spot. Even though it would only serve as a power port.

I do really like what @siblue posted above about adding a switch for something there. No idea what I would want to wire up to that spot but now I'm thinking about it.

If / when I get around to it, I will definitely post details. Have a list of honey do's a mile long and a demanding job.

12v is something I am very familiar with so this is all pretty simple. Just time consuming and low on the priority list.

BTW - Not Blowing Smoke. Here is a speed control that I built for my Jeep TJ blower motor to replace the undersized Mopar factory wiring that kept melting.

A couple USB ports is a no brainer compared to this.

Thanks. And that is just the 12v ground side of the circuit. Simply put it takes the high current load off of the fan switch and passes it thru a resistor and relays to control fan speed.

@Silversr5 Did you ever figure out a way to cover up this USB slot?

I did find something to put in the opening. It is not a perfect fit. It is a USB charger port.

Awesome. Assuming it stays in place when you plug/unplug the USB cord? Also, happen to have a link to where I can pick one of these up?

Yes, it stays in place when you plug and unplug the USB cord. It's solid in place. Here is the link for the USB charging port.

I tried that modd as well and would not work. I took the console apart, moved that cables to the glove box. And the damn switches/cover are different size. Could not fit the usb plug in the glow box and vice versa could not plug the hole under the console. Bummer... IF anyone know the part numbers to buy I might try again...
