    Have you done research on the 2018? Its going to be completely different vehicle....or possibly discontinued.

    I personally got the TrdOR Premium with the understanding that once I put the TRD Pro suspension and Skid plate I will essentially have a PRO without the price tag. Skid plates (~$300) and Suspension (<$2000) will be less total for essentially the same truck. I don't have KDSS and I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I think that is saying something in and of itself.. I can't tell that I'm missing something. Ignorance is bliss. So with the savings I got on the 4Runner, something you can't do with the Pros in my area (pretty much pay the sticker price or someone else will) I could have my version of a Pro for really cheap. ~$8K less considering I got a really really good deal on my TrdOR Premium.

    oh the list....!
    Best way that I can sum up the difference betwixt the KDSS vs. non, is that the non-version rides more predictably "truckish" while the KDSS version seems more "planted" and smooth on the highway. The "S" turns out here in East TN are a ball with KDSS! To be fair, the '16 limited that I test drove in Barcelona Red had the OE tires on it, and I am running Michelin Defenders. As far as rarity is concerned, I have YET to see another TRDOR anywhere. Lots of SR5's, Limited's, and the occasional TRDP, but nary an Off-Road.

    I was literally thinking about this today. The majority of 4R are either SR5 or Limited and there is a few of TRDPro's in my area, but I have yet to see another TRD OR. I also know that between the 2 Toyota dealerships here I had the first 17 OR sold. I look at every 4runner I see to check if its an OR or even a trail and so far not a one.

    I do the same. And I didn't realize this until about a week of owning my TRDORP. I have seen three. The one I have and the two on the lot from which I bought mine. Its surprising to me considering the deal I got on mine and the amenities that come with it.

    The only 4Runner I drove was the OR Premium with KDSS I bought 3 day later. After reading all the reviews, I never expected it to be fun to drive. But I was really surprised how it corners and how responsive and direct the steering feels. I am sure KDSS play a big part in that.

    With the lower price, availability of sunroof and KDSS, I think the OR is more desirable than the Pro. At least for me. And I probably would get the Limited over the TRD Pro. But KDSS is not offered on the Limited either.

    I just depends on what you want to do with it, and *why* you want to spend the extra cash on the Pro or Off Road.

    In all honesty, the Pro and ORs are really for looks and status. They are bad-ass looking and come with some upgraded performance/convenience parts that would be useful off-road beyond cool looking shifter knobs, grill, and floor mats, but if you are going to be serious about wheeling with it, IMO, you'd be better off getting a base or SR5 (and paying a LOT less) and spending that extra money on a true suspension package (like long travel ICONs or something), 33's, steel bumpers/winch/rock sliders, ARB fridge, etc...

    I paid a hair over $34k for my '17 SR5 (~4k off MSRP), so even after fully outfitting my rig with $6k+ of Zombie Apocalypse mods, I'd still come out less than a Pro.

    On the other hand, if you want a rare/unique rig in a cool color, then either the Pro or OR would suit just about anybody perfectly fine.

    For me personally, I prefer the older, smaller rigs for wheelin' anyway (still miss my '86), which is why my 4Runner will remain an almost entirely stock daily driver/trailer tow vehicle/play in the snow truck, and my long since paid-for best gen TRD doublecab will be my overlander/play truck. The only thing left on it at this point that is still "TRD" is the stickers and locker. Even if I replace the locker with a ARB or something, I'm keeping the status symbol of the TRD stickers, lol...

    I purchased a 2017 SR5 Premiuim to get the third row. I then installed bilstien shocks, a TRD Pro grill and valance cover, swapped out the stock wheels and tires for TRD off road wheels and BFG KO2 tires. Even throw on a remote start and moon roof just for fun.

    In short, I found it worth it to go this route and "build" my ride with whatever options I wanted. At this point I could simply swap out the SR5 badges with TRD PRO badges if I really cared about that and no one would know the difference. The only thing I can see why you would go with a TRD Pro is for the exclusive color, or the convince of not having to put everything together yourself. But honestly, you can't go wrong with whatever you do. These trucks are bad ass.

    Just my two cents.

    Wow, what dealership did you get your 4Runner at? 4K under MSRP is nice! Now I feel like a chump getting $700 under the sticker price for my 2017 SR5 premium. Lol

    Maita in Sacramento, CA. Full disclosure, it was more like $3800. I rounded. sue me... :D Of course, once you add back in tax, title, warranty and all that crap, I was back up to ~$40k...

    I'd like to chalk it up to my master negotiating skills, but really, it was some internet sale they were doing. The guy of course starts off the "negotiations" with some crap about my monthly payments (on the full sticker price). I told him I couldn't care less about my payments. I told him I knew the price they had this vehicle listed on their website, and we'll start talking once he gets that straight. Damn, he was hoping I didn't see that.

    I tried my negotiating-fu to knock another grand off of the sale price, but he didn't budge. Can't blame a guy for trying - it worked when we bought the wife's car.

    Wife looks at me and says "why do you always want the trucks they don't want to budge on the price?" I told her "give me a break, the last one was the [04 TRD] Tacoma more than a decade ago!" Still have it, too.

    I did, however, get them to knock a point of the apr.

    New here and first post. I picked the OR Premium with KDSS and moon roof. MSRP was 42,354 and I got it for 39,717. Seemed like a good deal to me and I got more for my Jeep trade-in than it was worth.

    As far as ride and goes with the KDSS, it seems very smooth and positive to me, but I came from an underpowered over priced 2008 Rubicon;).

    We bought a '16 Canadian Trail, basically a SR5 Premium Plus. The brochure said it had KDSS, and I was amazed at how it handled the twisty mountain highways in this area, far better than our '15 Wrangler JKU at all legal, and illegal, speeds. But I finally found a picture of the KDSS on the web and looked underneath - no KDSS! And I sure don't miss it, so would not make that a big decision point. And for those fellows who were blogging about it, it has a moon roof and power passenger seat, but that may be just the Canadian model. - Ted

    Welcome to the site Jack, I have the OR premium with KDSS and I love it. It feels sure footed on the road and is a really comfortable ride. The added room in the back seat is a real plus and this combo of the 4.0 and auto has been butter smooth so far. What infotainment does the taco have that the 4runner does not, I have not compared them in that area. What are your plans for it moving forward, lifting adding armor or keeping it as is? Oh and an added benefit of the 4runner over the taco is the length. I think it is a couple of feet shorter than the taco, in fact it is something like 10" longer than my wife's corolla.

    If I get the 4Runner I have no solid plans YET other than a Pro skid plate and a Pro grille. Maybe some suspension upgrades later. That is if the KDSS doesn't get in the way. Not much into lifting but might consider a leveling kit. I have 4Runner TRD Pro wheels and Falken ATs on my Taco and the dealer said they would let me swap onto the 4Runner. Along with the predator steps they will put on I think it would look great.
    The infotainment system on the Taco is awesome compared to the 4Runner. It has a bigger, colorful, readout in the center with many more available choices for settings to monitor including tire pressure, compass, current MPGs and more. My Taco also has blind spot monitoring and parking sensors. Not available on the OR. Need a Limited for that. Bigger $$$
    Waiting to hear back from the dealer before I pull the trigger. Unfortunately, the best deal around for me in SE FL is 3 hours away up the turnpike near Orlando.
    But it is a Toyota most likely worth the trip.

    Pulled the trigger. TRD OR Premium got off the boat and arrived from Jacksonville last week. Tires and rims I kept from Taco but tires are 65 aspect ratio so getting new Wildpeaks on today in the correct 70 aspect ratio. Selling the 65s to a new Taco owner. Hate speedometer and odometer errors.
    Predator bars added as soon as I got it. New project under way. What goodies can I get? Can’t have skid because of KDSS. Pro grille definitely on the radar. 73FACA12-213A-434A-8803-F2DCFDC298C1.jpg

    Thanks. Definitely doable. I had a Pro white skid on my Tacoma with black TRD letter inserts. Looked great. Will give it a shot. Did you do trial and error or did you have a good idea of the dimension of the arc you cut out? I saw some pics of plates cut straight across the bottom. Didn’t like them.
    BTW, is there any interference with oil drain plug? Earlier versions of the Tacoma Pro skid had that issue until they put an access plate in later versions.

    Later in that thread that was linked there is a template/measurements for cutting. The TRD skid does not interfere with the drain plug but it is in the way of the filter. The skid will have to be removed for each oil change.
