I have a 2012 SR5 that I bought from my daughter. It has 145,000 miles on it. The transmission fluid has never been changed. My mechanic drained a cupful and said it was dark and smelled a little burnt and that I should leave it alone. Please give me some advice!

Sounds like you need a new mechanic. A drain and fill is what I do.
