Your post has no heading or info first off. So what you are insinuating is that people aren't overpaying in the last two years, and that prices are the same? Manufacturers have yearly price increases, even before the dealer markups. Besides man, look at the msrp's year to year. Even if Car Gurus has legit numbers, calculate the percentages.

They should at least list the msrp for a certain trim for those figures, which I would think should start at base model. When I Talk prices I mean MSRP of trims, not what the selling price is at a dealer. Some have to pay a mark up, some don’t. Also for a baseline configuration matters. A base line sr5 msrp didn’t go up $12,000 in the last 3 years.

You posted it lol. If msrp's stayed the same every year, I'd be driving a new vehicle lol

well in my ‘region’ I guess we didn’t see a dramatic increase the last few years on 4 runners. $500-$1000 or so isn’t much more to me. Way less then the differences on the site you posted. Of course the stupid TSS will cost a few extra $$$

That's a cool feature I didn't know CarGurus.com provided. Thanks for teaching me something new today!! It does look to me that 5th Gen prices, regardless of model year, have steadily been climbing for the past 3 years. Absolutely ZERO depreciation.

I guess I'm lucky b/c my take on 4th Gen looks vs. 5th Gen is the opposite of the OP's (and apparently lots of others). I don't like the 5th Gen, though some are better looking than others. But when I was looking in 2014, my distaste for the 5th Gen styling and their cost relative to a 4th Gen made it no contest. Bought an '07 Sport with 96K and never looked back. Today she's got 231K, looks and drives great, and is still by far my favorite vehicle of all I've owned.

I think it also helps to be at a point in life where I don't need to chase the new and shiny thing. Not saying that's what's up with the OP, and not disrespecting anybody either because believe me, I was there for a lot of years. I spent some serious $ trying to get to what I thought I wanted only to eventually discover the grass isn't always greener. In the end, OP, only you can decide whether the money hit is worth having the truck you want. I wish you well whatever you decide.

I have a 4th gen v6 4x4 with 85k miles and my wife bought a 5th gen last week. I am very unimpressed for the amount of money we paid, but she didn't want to wait any longer. My 2005 seems to have more power than her 2020 v6. I also just feel like the 5th gen has a lot of 'fluff' features that I don't find particularly necessary. It just makes it more expensive in every way possible ( initial cost, insurance, registration, maintenance later in life etc.)

My wife, however, LOVES it. Its a 2020 SR5 premium with tan interior, 3rd row seats and sunroof. Has 45k miles and we paid 40k... still makes me queasy just thinking about it. Not what I would have spent 40k on if it were just me, but im married.

I don’t see a 4th Gen as a regret, mine has 265k and still purring like a kitten. It is proven, tested and worthy of anything a 5th Gen is capable of, it is what you make of it. As always when it comes to money and nice things my motto is as others have mentioned “Buy Once and Cry Once”. Wait and save/spend on what you want instead of settling on what you can afford. Best of luck on your endeavors.

The fastest 5th Gen is slower than the slowest 4th Gen. They added 300-500 pounds of weight to it. Somehow they got about 35hp more out of the engine, but it doesn't overcome the weight disadvantage.

5th gens are running on a powertrain that's 10+ years old. 4th Gen v8 FTW

I see you have a black 4th gen. Here is some build inspo. I have a 2004 V6 SR5, arguably the least desirable package the 4th gens came in but besides the sun roof it comes with everything I need. I mean at the end of the day these cars are nearly 20 years old.

You didn't over pay but you will when you buy a 5th gen! I would keep it.

    I just picked up a mint 07 white v6 (didn't want a V8) 4x4 with 180k for 10K and i love it.
