I have an'06 4Runner. Are there any problems with getting a used fuel pump from a salvage yard or would it be best to get an aftermarket used one?

Buy a Denso. Never use used fuel pump. Aftermarket parts are hit or miss. Denso is the oem supplier and they'll be the same quality but cheaper than the dealer.

You have to drop the gas tank on an 06 to change the fuel pump. After all that work I'd be putting in a new Denso pump and never worry about again.

My '85 Toy p/u had a fuel sensor chip go out. It was $300 (in the late '90s) for a new one. Mechanic recommended getting a used one from the junkyard for $50. If it didn't work, get another one. Even if we had to go a third time, it would still be cheaper. (He said about 1 out of 4 wouldn't work). The first one worked like a charm=sold it with 329K on the odometer.

BUT, in your case, you have to drop the gas tank, so it would be labor intensive to do it more than once!

Good luck. Both my fuel pumps went out on my Camaros. I’m testing local mechanics ability on one and it’s been to two shops, away from home over a month.
