if I buy a 4runner with leather seats they have to be swapped out for cloth seats so when checking the salvage yards, I don't see any 4th gen 4runners anywhere near me so what other models and year seats are good to look for, for the best donor seats that bolt right in?

It's highly unlikely anything else would fit, I think your best bet would be a tacoma's seats from 2005-2011, theyre very similar

well I would need the full set, im not going to leave the leather 60/40 bench in back with cloth buckets up front.

I was hoping other generations of 4runners had the same 4th gen seats that would swap out

I have swapped many seats in the past, 99% of the time with people telling me it wouldn't work:) Are you handy, can you drill, possibly weld? Could you unbolt your brackets and put on another seat? If you are, then you should have no problem hitting a junkyard or dealership, and checking the measurments and finding ones you would want. The 3rd gen and 1st Gen taco seats would be too small, leave weird gaps and spaces if your a 4th gen or 5th gen. The 2nd Gen taco seats would be a downgrade. In all honesty if you want leather, go with Katskin or one of the other Legit seat cover manufacters that require removal of your stock cloth and replacement of them with their covers. There are plenty of dealerships who do this and charge thousands more for the leather, the benefit to this is the aftermarket leather is much higher quality - if you go with a known and good brand, and they fit perfectly just like factory as in some cases they are factory leathers. it would be cheaper in the long run for you, and you'd get that smell and softer leather:)

Clazzio is another brand I have saw in stock vehicles that was installed as a dealer option as well, very good leather and cheaper than Katzkins

Here did the hard work for you - will be cheaper than hitting yard up, but expect it to take several hours to install them: https://www.amazon.com/Clazzio-250021blk-Leather-Toyota-4Runner/dp/B019QMAKXY

you misunderstood, I wanted cloth seats and all the v8 I see have the leather

I bought one yesterday and it seams to almost be plastic like feel, not sure if that's just how they are now or if its pleather seats but its not soft like a leather chair leather.

its the sport model with electric seats and they are black and feel more like plastic then leather so im not sure what they are lol

yes I have 4th gen and I was looking for either a bolt in swap option or a seat where I can swap the bottom cushions and seat backs out. I have done this in my taco to convert to bucket seats and they needed new foam so I just took some trashed taco bucket seats and used those bases and frankensteined 4 different 3rd gen 4runner seats into one really nice seat of cushions, headrests, and foam.

not really interested in drilling holes to "make" something work, on this truck im looking to keep it original as I can so I will see if I get used to it while im trying to find a set of good condition cloth seats from a 4th gen in junk yard of find someone with a nice set of cloth seats that wants black leather. my main thing is it gets so damn hot down here and black leather can be very painful to sit on in summer. I had leather as well as vinyl many years ago and both of them you had to carry towels around to put on the seats just so you could sit in the car to go somewhere, I like cloth seats because its much cooler and you don't sweat as much sitting in them

    What did you buy?

No drilling holes - only thing I was recommending was taking the stock seat rails off your 4th gens to bolt up to a different seat, I did this in different vehicles with good luck, such as RSX perforated leather seats in my SC300, JApan TRD cloth seats in that same SC300, liked them more. Did swap in my T100 that had the bench in the front with the "sport Tundra buckets" which had a little more side bolsters, just had to swap out the seat frames, no drilling and honestly can go on and on. Typically I change seats out, for this 4Runner I plan on getting the neoprene covers probably by Coverking/Covercraft opppsed to wet okale as I live by the Atlantic and am in and out of water a lot, not to mention cross fit and HIT training where I may as well have swam lol.

I didn't realize you had leather, there may be someone that wants to switch and that would be easiest, where are you located, your profile doesn't show it, I'm in Florida and since I'm going to do neoprene over my seats I would entertain a swap, I have the grey fabric in pretty much perfect shape.

I see where I said drill/possibly weld, what I meant by that was drilling out the rivets that are sometimes used to bolt the factory brackets to the bottom of the seat:) The welding was along the same lines, I had to add height to a seat I swapped out before, so you can ignore that part, wasn't' sure what you were looking for, and I read the first as you wanting leather not cloth:)

got it for $12,000 even, not the best deal in the world considering it needs a few things but don't they all lol, pretty fair price IMHO http://www.baywaylincoln.com/used/Toyota/2006-Toyota-4Runner-46fb527e0a0e0ae977ebaf7976734e9a.htm?searchDepth=1:1

I saw and read a lot about Tacoma seat conversions and different ways like swapping rails to re-drilling holes and making your own adapters to fit all sorts of seats from whatever. I also saw the front foot replacements for using 3rd gen 4runner seats. just don't feel like doing that to the runner, cant say why but it just feels wrong to hack on it but the taco was a truck so I wouldn't think twice about hacking on it if it came out looking nice. I guess its all in the mindset.

im in Louisiana so that's a bit to far away I think unless you want to meet up in Mississippi somewhere at a rest area with some tools lol

im going to have to think on what, if anything to do about it, no rush just yet, all energy needs to go into prepping the taco for sale, time to give it its first wash job in 2 years, detail the interior, and roll on a bed liner before I sell it. the way my time is limited it might be 2 months before I can even think about using the 4runnner, for now im just gonna get the keys and alarms done and park it.

Any chance you're still looking for cloth seats? I'm in LA as well and am looking for leather.
