Here’s my black 84 I had in high school. That was my first one and the green one is my current one.

They are Yakima a-1 towers and 48” bars. About $100 a pair on eBay.

Seriously jealous of how clean your interior is, how much of it is aftermarket or NOS?

Just bought this 85 all original 4Runner. Has just had a fresh rebuild at 260k miles mated to an automatic. It runs like a champ. It has a few issues - back glass doesn’t let down, seat adjustment cables broken, fuel gauge doesn’t work, and has a noisy blower fan. Everything else is in really good shape. No rust with regional paint. Any suggestions for repairs? Should I leave it stock or lift it and change out the wheels and tires?

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Nice looking truck! Looks a lot like my 87 4Runner, other than color.

Are you SURE the seat adjustment cable is broken? Driver or passenger? Mine has a problem it's developed over the years on the passenger's side. The fitting the cable is attached to on the center side of the seat, underneath, of course, bends down far enough the cable no longer releases the catch so the seat can slide forward. I just bend it back up with a small breaker bar, and problem solved. For a while, anyway. Over time, it bends again, and I get in and ben it back.
Maybe that all your trouble with the passenger seat, if that's the trouble, is something as simple to fix? A quick bend, all done. For now :D

    As to the back window...
You can take the panel off the back door to expose the motor, and so forth. You can take an average 12 volt battery in there, with a couple of cables, and see if the window will go up and down with voltage applied directly to the motor. A quick glance at the wiring diagram will tell you the wires on the motor that make it go up or down. Also, make sure all the interlocks are made properly.
There's one that makes when the tailgate is up and latched properly, one that makes when the wiper is all the way up in it's latched, resting, position, and one that makes when the PROPER bolts are in the cap holding it down.
If the bolt is the wrong one, too long, or too short, or just a generic, hardware store, bolt, it can cause this problem. Look on the FSM Body Mechanical section to see which is the "special" bolt. You can pull the panel below the side windows, on the driver's side, to find it, too. You can easily check to see if the switch is made properly.
There is also a circuit breaker under the driver's side kick panel. It on the same plastic plate the fuse block is on, right under the fuse block. It's a circular, silver, can with a hole in the top. Just insert a small screwdriver or punch of some kind straight into the hole and push inward to see if there's a "click". If there IS a click, the breaker had popped, and the whole problem may well be solved. Check the fuses in the fuse block right above it, too. Ya never know...
Does the window not function with only the inside switch, the keyswitch, or both the inside AND the keyswitch? Sometimes one or the other can get worn down or broken, and not permit the window to function.

The gas gauge can be the sender in the tank, the gauge in the gauge set, or the wiring between the two. It's usually the sender in the tank, or the gauge. Usually. It's a good idea to ohm the wiring between the two out to be sure that's not it. There's a "hatch" under the back seat, passenger's side, that will allow you access the parts that hang down into the tank, without needing to drop the tank.

Have you locked the hubs in and gone 4 wheelin' yet? Just to be sure it all works right, of course :)

Good luck, and enjoy your new, to you, truck!
    Pat☺

Thanks for all the tips. I haven’t had a chance to check anything on the back glass because of the busy holiday week. I plan to tackle it this week. The 4WD works perfect so far.

Fell in love with the first generation in high school. Have been lucky enough to own a few.

1987 4Runner Turbo. She has been in he garage a while (10 years) and it is time to get her going again.

First pic was almost 20 years ago after a little fun in the mud. 2nd pic is where I dug everything from around her in the garage and could see that badge!!!

I’m a Jeep guy who just acquired this 88’ from friend/original owner. I would love to sell it to a Toyota person, everyone on Facebook marketplace seems to want it for the low price only. Sorry to use this as an ad, but I don’t know where to post it so other Toyota people see it. $2900 obo Charleston, WV. Clean Title.

I've never paid for a dog, because I just adopt rescues. Now it seems I'm also in to rescuing 1st Gen 4Runners. Local salvage yard listed this on it's lot last Saturday. I took Tuesday off from work to get the front axle (85 solid) but somebody had already got the frame out from under it.... The salvage yard is nowhere for a 1st Gen to hang out so I bonded this bad boy out of jail!! Interior isn't too bad, plus it has the factory rear seat delete panel.

Picked this 1987 Turbo 4runner last week. Pretty close to original. Was told it had blown head gasket. Working on cleaning it up as it has been sitting for over 10 years. Plan is to repaint, fix motor/rebuild, 32s and a small lift kit.[IMG]

Definitely got some work ahead of you. Better to fix that baby up than see it go to a junkyard. Have Fun!!

I had some fun out at Grand Lake in Disney, OK. I was able to drive up the bottom of "Little Blue" and park near the cave.

Great 4Runner and I've always loved that wheel style. Reminds me of the Dukes of Hazard. Are you still running them?
