Anyone else have this issue? The double sided mounting tape that came with it was crap so that was removed and I put on an obscene amount of double sided 3M mounting rape. Used a heat gun to make it pliable and it went on well enough....didn't quite seem like it was the best fit and maybe that's the issue.

    Purchased from https://www.4runnerlifestyle.com/

Other side is flush, this side popped up.

You might want to let others know where you got yours, for those in the market for one...

I’d actually be interested in just getting black pieces and remove the original crap.

same site, same issues.. my 4R is black so it was not as noticeable..

but after a couple weeks of bugging me and one side of the overlay you can push against and feel it move a bit.. I took it off and re-did the placement.. I removed the 3m strips.. clean it the back side of the overlay and used a 3M adhesive spray.. so far no issues and it is on there a lot better than before and sit really close..

    hope this helps..

Any time you are using automotive tape to apply something ALWAYS clean the area with alcohol or reduced paint thinner and always on a warm surface. The hotter the better. Wax, grease, soap, anything like those WILL affect its ability to stick. Not prepping the surface is not anyone else's fault but the person applying it.

Oh yeah the surface got cleaned big time first with soap and water and then with a lot of alcohol. And then I used an absurd amount of double sided mounting tape because what came with it didn't work at all. Heated both sides up with a heat gun.

The issue is the overlay is not the same shape as the grill. Very clearly not the same shape. So....I'll be on the lookout for something else. you can't notice it unless you're up close and looking for it but it bugs me quite a bit.

    Tinted fronts, blacked out overlays.
I had one of those on and had the same issues after twice trying to remedy the problem, finally just took it off and when with the OEM and Plastidipped the bar. Figured if I wanted a Pro bad enough y I’d of bought one.

that's a good idea. I was thinking of just taking the bumper into a shop and having them paint that portion black. Should have just done that when i was working on the bumper.....and have them get a scratch out while they were at it.

I got my wife’s “pro grill” from kokautoparts.com and I feel it was a great fit and also came with the raptor lights and letters. I actually need to get to the top of the tape and still peel it I accidentally ripped the red backing off while it was mounted I did fold it over the top to get it to come off after install so the top edge wouldn’t stick right away while pushing it on but even with the top tape not peeled and stuck it feels likes it’s on there really good. She works from home and I got busy to get around to it so hopefully sometime this week as we don’t really drive it all that much

Have you reach out to them? I had some issues with my overlays and emailed them. They repsonsed and shipped out new overlays. I haven't had any issues with them since. I will say the second time, i cleaned the surface a lot better with proper chemicals instead of window cleaner.

I had this same issue with the TRD Pro Grill from 4Runner Lifestyle. I ended up taking off the top strip of adhesive as it seemed to be the culprit when trying to get the garnish on flush. From there, I went real slow and applied even pressure on both sides until making contact and then really leaned into it to flush it up. I kept the weight on it for a few minutes and it ended up sticking really well once the adhesive had a brief chance to bond. There is going to be a small gap, I think it’s 3mm on each side if you’re dead center, which they do mention on the product listing.

On the bright side, the plastic is strong enough to not have too much give, the only pain is making sure it’s even enough on both sides and that the 3M tape is making contact in all the sweet spots.

I purchased some badge overlays and told them they were a bad fit and they refunded my card
If you're not pleased you might want to ask for a refund. They didn't even want me to return the ones they sent.

I have had mine for almost a year with no issues. Just cleaned it really well and used a couple spring clamps to keep pressure on it for a while. Washed it normally, then hit both the piece and nose with a light degreaser, then again with alcohol. I also sprayed mine satin black, 2 coats of clear and lightly wet sanded in between each one with 00 steel wool prior to install.
    2020-22 4Runner Pro Grille — Taco Vinyl
They also have a 2010-2019 version without the TSS cut out.
I choose TacoVinyl due to the fact I didnt want lettering or the dimples. Just smooth and sleek.

love that. I don't want letters either. That seems like a lot of work though, painting before putting on the overlay.

The raw black color of the plastic was just "off" in my eyes. It didnt have the same black color as the wipers, grill and some of the other black peices. I wanted it to look good and, so I took my time until I got it to look right ,as thats what matters to me.
You can, by all means, slap in on right out of the box. I almost took it to a paint shop to get it color matched "naughty blue" but decided against it. I think the black helps breaks up the color. Its really up to what "you" want...

    Could try pop rivets. ;)

Fortunately my recent purchase of passenger grab handles turned out ok. I’m not dishing anyone, but reading threads about issues and frustrations with aftermarket parts makes me glad I don’t have the same desire.

Did the overlay sizing fit? same size as the bumper?

Looks great, nice job. Any issues with it coming loose later?

What method did you use for the black valance(s)?

the gaps are small on either side I measured the whole overlay and found the center point and out a piece of masking tape with a mark, same for the portion where the upper grill is at so when I slid it on it was pretty much centered I can get a few pics of both sides tomorrow and post it for you to see

Thank you! I only put it on this past Sunday. I failed to peel the red lining tape from the top facing tape because it stretched and ripped off but I am going to pull top grill off and I should be able to grab it and peel the rest of the way. But overall it’s really secure with the front facing tape and bottom tape.

As far as the lower valance I removed it by sliding all the clips out from behind the bumper. I just used matte black plastidip for the front and rear valances. The rear I just masked and sprayed seemed too hard to get off, I read the whole bumper has to come off. A heck of a lot easier just to mask and spray.

thanks as soon as we signed for it she found a few things she wanted to do so of course after modding my past 2 tacomas I had to buy what she wanted! Sad part was most of the stuff we got to add to her 4Runner showed up 2 weeks before the actual vehicle did lol but she is happy I just wish she would let me lift it or at least get it level next is going to be a set of more aggressive tires
