I have a 2022 4Runner with under 7,000 miles. The yellow collision light is on. It came on while driving on I95 while I was using my cruise control. The cruise control shut off and the light came on. When I turned the car off the light reset it it's self, but if I tried to use the cruise control it came back on. I took it to the dealer, they had my 4Runner for 6 days..could not fix it. They sent me to a body shop and told me they would have to fix it. I dropped it off today and the guy at the body shop said he would look at it but it sounded like Toyota didn't know how to fix it. I bought my car 09-24-21 brand new, they can't fix it and after I picked it up from the dealer the light it now on and will not go off even if I turn the car off. In fact now I have a caution light on and a message on my dash that says something like the Collision indicator had failed and to visit my dealer. What do I do ??? This is a new vehicle and I'm riding around with 2 lights on and a message on my dash, and Toyota can't figure it out ?

    This is a joke right?

Took it to Toyota and sent you to a body shop while under warranty? Take the thing back and make them fix it.

Sorry that is happening to you. These TSS/collision systems in Toyotas don't seem great in my opinion. My TSS lights would go on occasionally on my '21 Tacoma, but would go off. I don't use cruise control so not sure if that would have been a different situation.

Regardless, personally I woul dtake it back to the dealer and demand they fix it, if they need to start replacing cameras or sensors, then so be it. Not sure what they did during those 6 days, but that is pretty sad that they deferred to a body shop. A body shop likely wouldn't have the slightest idea, they are in the business of replacing and painting, not diagnosing a computer system. I would take it back.

I am sure it will get resolved. In the meantime, I would demand a loaner. Also, depending on your state, you have 6 days already under your belt for a lemon law situation (CA is 30 days for the same issue). Not that it would come to that, just something you should know and also maybe use as a casual comment (leverage) toward your dealer.

Good luck and I hope they fix this for you soon!

Thank you S8ULTAR for the information. Toyota is saying the sensor is not aligned and they could not fix it a the dealership. So basically I will be paying to have them look at it and see what they can do. It make NO SENSE and I am at a loss..

Dillison that's the thing the Toyota dealership doesn't have a clue of how to fix it. They told me they recalibrated all kinds of things, replaced some pigtail thing in the column and nothing has worked.

Is there another Toyota dealership near you? It's clearly something that Toyota needs to fix. I'd drive somewhere else and see if another dealership is able to take care of it.

Sounds very frustrating, OP. I hope it gets taken care of asap for you!

    Its under warranty.

They are charging you? First I'd go get my money back.

Second if they can't fix it keep track of all your visits and paperwork. And try a different dealer. If none can fix probably going to have to fight for a new 4R. I think your current dealer is just lazy.

Given you are under warranty you 100% should not be paying for anything. Typically if a dealer requires assistance from a body shop, they would sublet and pay the body shop directly, including transferring the car to them. They would not give the car back to the customer and tell them to handle it themselves.

Now I understand why you are so upset ! I would call the GM or the Service Manager at your dealer and explain the situation to them (if they are already not aware). If that doesn't get you anywhere, it is time to go full blown Karen mode (sorry, had to) on the dealer, Toyota Corporate, Yelp, Google Reviews etc... Also, hire an attorney out of spite. All of this is probably not necessary.

Again, sorry you have been treated this way, that is complete BS that the dealer asked you to handle and pay for the body shop. "I have never" !

Thank you all for the information. I took my car to the body shop, ready for this ??? Not only is it not a body shop issue but when they had my car for 6 days they took the clips of the motor shield and gave the car back to me without any replaced. My body shop put on butterfly clips that are made for a Honda because that was all he had. He said they were universal and they will work for now but I needed to go back to them ( he took pictures). So I called and got the number for Toyota Corporate and I will be calling them today.

Is your 4Runner modified? Or, was it in a collision? I didn't see anything about it in your post. But, that's the only way this shouldn't be covered under warranty.

You might have to get Toyota involved, otherwise. The dealership should be able to service their own vehicle.

So, they're not refusing to fix it. They just can't?

You're going to have to go to a better dealership. There's NO reason you should be paying out of pocket for this.

Have you contacted Toyota? Or, have you called other dealers and asked if they could fix it?

This rather sounds like a lazy, incompetent dealership that might need a kick from Corporate. Don't quit yet!

That's a good scam for the dealer. "Oh we can't fix xxxxxxx issue. Sorrrrrrrrry!"

Never have to do a warranty repair again.

I would argue that if they say it's not fixable, they just bought themselves a lemon 4R over at Joey Buddafuoco Toyota and Scion.

That dealership should not be in business if they can't perform a warranty repair and had the gall to send you to an independent body shop, on your own dime. Please let us know how Toyota plans to have Acme Toyota, service manager Wile E. Coyote, follow through with your repair, or pull their Toyota franchise license.

@lightninlil any update from Toyota corporate? Sorry you are going through this. If the nearest Toyota dealer aside from your primary is 2 hours away, and things progress as to where your current dealer literally cannot fix the car, you have a very good case for a lemon law situation. Not ideal, but know that is an option. If Toyota Corp agrees another dealers should attempt a fix, I would personally require it be flatbed'd there (to avoid mileage on the car) and a similar or equally decent loaner/rental.

I'd imagine Toyota Corp will get an engineer involved and they will work with the shop foreman at your dealership and the car will get fixed; that is most likely.

Any time you are without your car (whether you have other cars or not), given this situation, I would require alternative transportation.

So sorry, again, you are having to deal with this. Hang in there!

Someone above ask if your 4runner has ever been in a accident before you bought it, That maybe something you want to look in too. Dealership are not required to tell you unless you ask.

Unlikely as OP said he bought new. As someone who has worked in the industry for other brands (Canada) I’m curious how this turns out. I’m assuming corporate Toyota has a much higher standard for customer service vs the average dealer, and this dealer sounds below average.
