    I have to see I have a clean site of the shutter wire. If its a separate easy access wire I could tap it to trigger the relay for my 9005 & light bar. If everything in same plug I would be scared to tap. Have to see..

    Howdy, mynameistory. Thanks for this amazing post. You've covered a LOT of ground here. I just have one question, and I'll apologize in advance if it's a bit repetitive. Am I correct in my understanding that I could take the Bi LED headlight units, modify the plug on the back of the unit to accept my 2020 harness, swap over my halogen DRL/High beam bulb and have LED low beam, and halogen DRL/Highbeam? Essentially the same config as a the 2021 LED w/ Halogen High beam units L: 81070-35600 R: 81140-35610? Might be weird but I'm after that Led-low beam and Halogen High beam and DRL config. I don't want to mess with the LED shutter of the more advanced Bi Led units. Thanks in advance.

    Correct: you could take bi-LED headlights and decide not to activate the shutter. You can modify your headlight by de-pinning the connector and re-pinning a new one, although I do not have any expertise in this modification. The easiest way to do this is to use the ready-made adapter by FBC here:

    However: keep in mind that the bi-LED headlights have altered halogen reflectors, and therefore different beam patterns. These beams may not meet legal or usable intensity requirements to be considered proper high-beams (since their OEM function is DRL only). If you really insist on LED low-beam only, your best bet is to try to find the 2021 low-beam only headlights, as those halogen reflectors are truly meant as proper high-beams.

    The LED shutters are nothing to be too worried about, as they just need a simple 12V signal to operate. I just want to make sure that no one connects them directly to the existing high-beam circuit, as the PWM voltage (during DRL use) can harm them.

    I wanted to double check something with the group here after reading through all of this. If I get the LED low/Halogen high beam headlights, I would just need the harness from FBC without the shutter wire? Then that harness would be for the LED low beam only and the stock halogen plugs/wiring would remain untouched?

    Just want to be sure before I drop the money on the headlights. Thanks

    I received a reply from my sales rep on the relay supply issues. It seems Song Chuan, the manufacturer of the relays I use in various harnesses, is way behind. There is no visibility into when that might change but the hope is that my order from May could arrive in December based on today's information.

    In the meantime, I have sourced a small handful of the relays I use at painful prices so I can at least keep a small trickle of DIR and SR headlight harnesses going. If I get too far behind I may temporarily halt selling relay based harnesses as I scramble to locate relays.

    Anyone waiting on the fully plug and play 4Runner OEM LED harness, I won't launch that item until I have received the relay order from May. I was quoted November back when I ordered so I'm hopeful it won't be too much longer on that. I already re-ordered a 2nd batch and I'll likely ordered a 3rd once the 2nd arrives just to be safe.

    I don't make anything, Dave is the talented dude at FBC that makes everything. I just worked with him on developing and testing the prototypes.

    The harnesses currently for sale can only be used for low-beam LED headlight conversions. You can option an extra wire if you would like to control the shutters for LED high-beams, but you need to figure out the necessary wiring and controls yourself.

    The new harnesses (that Dave is currently waiting on supplies for) use relays to natively control the low-beams and high-beams without any additional wiring needed. Meaning, your low and high-beams will be plug and play and work using your existing headlight stalk. This is less straightforward than you might think, as the high-beam circuit in the older trucks also serve double duty as the DRLs using pulsed voltage. This pulsed voltage could be harmful to the LED shutters, so relays are used to isolate them when the DRLs are on.

    My bad, I think you’ve told me a couple times now you aren’t making the harnesses. I’m just slow.

    And I'm tracking on the rest, thanks. I bought the current harness from Dave, as I wanted the halogen high beam and LED low only. The performance of the lights in that setup looks to be exponentially better with the quick 9011 bulb mod.

    Is this the new Plug and Play option available on the FBC website? If I'm understanding correctly, the OEM LED low and high beams will function as stock, but that new harness would also keep the stock 9005 Halogen as the high beam as well?

    What are my options then for converting the stock 9005 halogen to an LED?

    I’ll let more experienced people comment on your first part.

    But, from my understanding and research it would be better to modify a 9011 bulb to fit the 9005 spot. Significantly better output and beam pattern. I believe the 9011 bulb would out perform any LED you could put in there.

    Not really all that concerned with light output, but more so with the color of led over halogen.

    You might also check the DRL functionality when you change highbeam bulbs. Xenon depot LEDs may not be the brightest but they are the best DRLs I've tried.

    And yes color is a good topic as well. I've seen articles where human eyes see better with lights closer to blue and white spectrum vs yellow/amber --> Scotopic Vision. Also blue and white spectrum more likely to keep your body clock active vs yellowish light.

    Swapped my HID retrofit for the OEM LEDs with 9011 bulbs. Happy with the outcome. Thanks to Dave and Tory for getting the harnesses together. Zero issues.

    With the new harness, will it enable the newer models with LED low/high beams (via shutters) a plug and play way for the 9005 DRLs to go to full brightness when high beams are activated? Or is there another method to accomplish this as PWM may not be at play?

    Thanks in advance, I had a pre-LED headlight 4Runner which I planned on upgrading but now have a 2023 due to a car accident and want to accomplish LED low/high and use the 9005/9011 at full brightness as a "boost" to the LEDs.

    I don't think this harness is what you need. The changes are on the truck side as far as light control is concerned. 22+ 4Runners have the 9005 bulbs (now DRL only) wired in series to dim them at 6V each.

    If you want to use your reflectors, you may have to use a custom made harness/relay to turn the bulbs on with your high-beams. You will lose DRL function this way though.

    Thank you for your input on this! I'll keep my eyes out for the solution I am interested in, and am looking at options to add more lighting.
    I have a 30" lightbar I was going to install on my former 4Runner behind the lower front grill, but TSS and the front camera has me questioning this on my new T4R. I may go with a shorter bar on the upper grill and or larger pods on either side of the TSS/camera.

    Check out this post by Too Stroked, he used a Rago Fab bar mount and two Diode Dynamics SS5 pods to great effect. Avoids the TSS problem or any custom fabrication.

    Many thanks - I *just* ordered a pair of DD SS5 Driving pods during their Black Friday sale (and another set of SS3 Pro fogs), and will need to add a crossbar mount to my Rago mount (for the 30" DD bar I cannot use any more) or consider another brand (N-Fab has gotten some good reviews, but don't know of the pro/cons vs the Rago).

    As I look at the '23 TSS, there is ~8" plate behind both the front camera and radar which blocks too much space for a 30" light bar, unfortunately. I do wonder how a pair of SS5s compares with a 30" bar, though. The other option I was considering was a ~20"-26" bar in the upper grill area.

    I had to register just to reply to this.

    It's a cool idea. I think it's doable with the same basic setup as what I'm already doing for the upgrade to the LED headlights. I'd effectively T the LED connector and use the shutter trigger to fire the high beam. However, I assume the shutter isn't expecting to drive a 9011 so the source of power would have to feed from the battery, a minor inconvenience, particularly for the passenger side which is further from the battery.

    It's something to consider, perhaps for 2023. The actual harness wouldn't really be that different than the one I'm making now.

    TLDR: Bug me in January or February when I'm (hopefully) caught up on orders and we'll see?

    So I attached the full plug and play harness but lost my DRLs. I triple checked that I enabled them on the Entune. The quad highbeams work but DRLs. Any ideas?
