Dead sunroof & Dome Light

I searched and couldn’t find anyone else with this exact issue.

my new-to-me 2006 4Runner sport has a non-functioning front dome light. I changed the bulb and nothing. The sunroof is also completely dead, the motor doesn’t even make a sound.

The dome light & sunroof motor I believe are housed in that same overhead housing compartment. Assuming it’s not a fuse (I’ll check, but I believe these two items are on different fuses), I’m guessing it must be some other electrical malfunction.

Any ideas on what I should be checking on first? My theory is that some water somehow got into that plastic housing and fried something (but I can’t confirm this and could be completely wrong)

Any help would be appreciated. I don’t want to buy a whole new sunroof motor if it’s just a wire set that I need to replace.

 

Fuse?

 

I would be shocked that they spent the money to run two circuits to the same housing. My money is it's a fuse.

 

I'd agree. It's rare that you see wiring go bad unless something is rubbing or has overheated. It's just like running a wiring harness to a trailer. If it's not grounded properly fucky stuff happens. I'd also check to make sure your main grounds are good and not corroded at the contact points

 

Its a fuse. Now, why it blew, may be the better question.

 

Late to party, but adding .02 that may/not help. reason for Short.. water somewhere... i.e. from your sunroof...leaking and backing up from the drains, and getting to the headliner. just a Thought. That's was the reason for the Puddle in passenger floorboard - for me... clogged A-pillar drains. just throwing that out there.
