None done by me but previous owner put in a nice lift.
    Hi everyone!

I'm the very proud owner of a 1996 Toyota 4Runner, 6 Cyl, 3.4 L engine with about a 2 inch lift on it (I haven't measured it) that I bought in 2015 with 145,403 miles on it. I absolutely love it! I'm hoping someone can help me figure out an issue-it make a weird tapping sound once it warms up and overheats every so often-one day it's after driving 1 mile, another day it's after 50 miles the next day, doesn't overheat at all. I've taken it to multiple mechanics and they can't figure out the problem or replicate the issue. I had the valve cover gasket and intake manifold gasket replaced in July 2021; kept up regular maintenance (oil change, filters, etc); replaced water pump, timing belt, thermostat. Currently at 181,168 miles. Any ideas of what may be causing the overheating issue? Thank you!

Welcome from the center of the bourbon universe. Maybe try another thermostat?

    Thanks everyone.
@UofLCardfan77 Thanks for the suggestion-I'll look into the new thermostat idea.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Maybe try a coolant system flush? You've done all the obvious culprits.

@Toy4X4 thanks for the coolant system flush, I'll look into it.
