LOve it, but....PCS malfunction on 2020

    I love this truck. It has really opened up my options for exploring and has been great so far. There is one thing that has started happening recently, intermittently, that is concerning. I am getting Pre-collision system malfunction warning/take to dealer. I do have a lift, dealer isn't sure what to do. Anyone else run into this??

    I read somewhere that an adjustment can and needs to be done by the dealer service dept when lifting a 4Runner that has PCS. Do a little googling, and try a different dealer. GL!

    Agreed. Many of the PCS complaints we see seem to involve lifts (though some with lifts report no problems). In any case, in the meantime if you haven't already you might want to be sure you have your PCS set to its lowest sensitivity level. You can adjust it in the Multi Information Display on your dash. I think the default setting is Medium, but mine accidentally ended up on High and the one unwarranted warning I've had occurred then. Since I set it back to Medium it's only gone off when it should. (No lift on my truck BTW)

    Lift here and no issue. I think that issues arose when people start going for a more “level” look - which changes the angle of the radar plate. It has similar effect as to loading up in the back ( cargo or towing) in which case owners manual mentions possible “malfunctions”

    Thanks for the input. I do have a lift, less than 3". I've had it for 5 months, and just started having issues last week. While you are right that Toyota can ignore my issues because of the lift and bigger tires, and don't think that is very prudent. These trucks have lots of off road goodies, especially TRD Pro and Off Road, so I think it's unreasonable to design them to go haywire if someone puts bigger mud tires and a lift on them. Mine lift is actually not leveled, as I like the extra weight capacity in the rear.

    Great find until your insurance finds out. My rate went down going from a 19 to a 20... pre covid

    Seems just the unlucky few have had issues with the 285's and a lift, like myself. Weird though. 5 months without a issue. Then a bunch of pcs malfunctions within a few days. None the last couple times I drove it. It is what is it, thanks for the link on disabling. I will definitely do this if the problem persists.

    5 months free and clear now it acts up. I would disconnect the battery and wait a spell. I had some self inflicted errors and warnings from using a cheap fuse tap. pulled battery off and they cleared. - fyi when I did that I lost my clock and the 1st time you crank it up, engine dies, second start cranks right up. all other settings were intact

    ^^disconnect battery will not cut it. Call around tires shop to have them calibrate , its useful to have this system work properly.

    I find it interesting that recalibration is even an option post this Toyota TSB stating clearly that the system should be disabled if any non-approved mods are made. Yikes. That irks me considering that Toyota parades around TSS so much.. but "oh if you mod your car (cause that's not common....) then you no longer get TSS." Can they disable the brake boost? That's what I want...

    Freaking truck designed for little girls I swear..

    Thats why i said dont go to dealer have them re-calibrated, then you willl be bitching more. Once its permanent can't recover unless you spend another 2k and put back to stock.

    So you're saying someone other than a Toyota Dealer / Tech can reprogram the necessary module(s)?

    This thread has been pretty helpful.

    I hopped on here because recently on my 2020 4 Runner, the "Pre Collison System Malfunction take to dealer" warning came on. Trying to gain a better understanding of the issue.

    A couple weeks ago I had the front windshield replaced, it had a crack in it. No collision or anything just needed replaced. The front camera behind the windshield was recalibrated without issue at Safelite auto glass.

    This week we replaced the original factory Nitto Terra Grapplers (265/70R17) for a set of Nokian Outpost AT's (also 265/70R17). They also suggested an alignment which we did.

    When I got the call the tire & alignment was completed they had asked if that warning light was on previously?

    So I think this scenario between a new windshield, tires (although same size), and an alignment has created the perfect storm to take the ADAS out of calibration just enough to cause an issue.

    The guys at Safelite & my Tire shop have all been extremely helpful and this is not a bash or negative on them. They double checked their work and been very professional. I have an appointment at the dealer in a couple weeks to get it checked out and hopefully resolved. And hopefully not alot more money...

    I figured I would share as this seems to be an issue thats not too uncommon. Maybe this process can help someone else make some informed decisions going forward with their 2020 or newer 4 Runners with TSS, ADAS, and hopefully not as big of PITA (see what I did there? ;)
