Hello all, I hope I’m not being redundant with this question… I’m looking for suggestions on transporting a board or kayak with the existing rack on my 2021 TRD pro 4runner. I’ve seen threads regarding the low profile, two bar racks but not much info on the racks like mine. It’s the large tube rack that sits to the mid-back of the roof. Appreciate any ideas from you adventuring 4runner people!

    Thanks!A318771B-B5B7-4F97-9E8C-4A235024816A.jpg

The Thule Hull a Port Kayak Carrier will fit just make sure that they are mounted on the Lower Cross bar position and the cross bars are Locked down tight and forward so the Kayak clears the Rear top cross member, As for Boards I seen where they take the Cross members and put them on the Top bars then put those pool Noodles on them then strap the the board down tight.

I really dont understand why the roof racks on 4runners are so short, I strappep my 12ft kayak up there and was dissapointed after a 30 mile drive. Granted, it was a windy day, but the bars are so close, the rack really just acts like a pivot. Good thing I used two straps off the nose to the bumper. Even then, the thing constantly shifted. I almost bent the thing in half because Id stop to tighten in down every time it shifted, it started to compress the kayak. Ugh.

My old sienna had two cross bars, but much more spaced out. That kayak was rock solid and could not be moved. Never used the nose tie downs either.

A new roof rack or addition to my stock one is a priority now.
