Hey all. I came here to see if there was much information on swapping a 7M into a 1st gen and I am not coming up with much. I have seen 1J and 2J swaps online, I know people do the 3.4L swap with the occasional supercharger, but I wanted to go a different direction. I should also say, I know virtually nothing of the 1st gen other than admiring it for forever!

Since the 7M was a domestic (to the states) engine, parts shouldn't be an issue. Also, the aftermarket support for the motor has come a long ways.

My goal would be a fun weekend cruiser, small lift, bikini top over the bars and freeway power. This is not intended to be an offroad build, I have my 5th gen for that. So let's call it a mall crawler, since someone probably will anyway :)

Not sure the best way to spark the conversation but here are a couple bullet point questions:
    - Would the drive train support a modest 7M build, say 350-400hp?
    - is the R154 trans an option here? If not, what would be a better choice?
    - should 4wd be abandoned to make the swap/build more simple since I don't plan on wheeling it?
    - Between the lift and power increase, what sort of rear gearing would I need to consider?
    - is there any aftermarket manufacturers of fiberglass body panels or OEM-like interior pieces to replace dash and center console type pieces?

This is in early phase, but would love to brainstorm pros and cons with people that know the platform better than I do! Thanks!
