I drove my 4runner over a forest service road (FSR)to get to my cabin. All windows were up, air conditioning on, air recirculate on. The road is dusty, been driving it for over 10 years with various vehs I've owned and never had anything close to this issue. Dust was all over the interior panels including the dash, sides of seats from the front dash to the rear hatch. On a closer look the dust has made it behind all the light panels on the rear interior hatch, the hatch lock is caked in dust. I drive this road every weekend to my cabin, what you see on the interior surface is also being inhaled by all the occupants. I have 2 neighbours at the cabin that also have 2022 4runners that both have this problem. I'll be going back to the dealership but wondering if anyone has reached out to Toyota, clearing this is a problem, all over blogs.

If everything closed and sealed, that is very strange. I wouldnt even know where to start looking. Makes me afraid to drive mine out in a dirt road now lol.

Yeah, something is off. I've driven our 4runners in ridiculous amounts of dust and never experienced anything like this.

Same, I just got back from the Black Hills and drove primarily on gravel and dirt roads and didn't experience this. If the windows are down... that's a different story!

I don't get that much do I do notice a lot of dust accumulation. However I do drive with my windows down when I can. Filtered cabin vents have become pretty popular and have thought about getting them for this reason. https://fourcam.com/collections/frontpage

I've never had dust come in unless the windows were open. The hatch window is the worst one.

If everything was closed up, you have a problem. I would double check the cabin air filter, even though it shouldn't have let dust in on recirculate mode.

I’ve driven on very dusty dirt roads many times with my 2022 and never had dust inside. Definitely not normal if all windows were up ans AC on recirculate

As others have said, I've had mine covered in dust, but only on the outside when all windows are closed. Hopefully you get the problem solved. That's insane!

Agree with others - rear window open (even a little) is the only time I've had dust get into any of my 4Runners.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Wow... the only time we had dust, and then, a lot less than yours was, when the rear window accidentally was put down, just a smidge. We live on a gravel road and travel it every day and it has never been like yours. I changed the cabin filter after the first year of running the truck, and I was a little surprised at the accumulation of pine needles, dust, etc. Did you look at your cabin air filter? Curious as to what it looks like.

Welcome! That's crazy--let us know what the dealer tells you. I can't even guess.

My 2022 is the same. Get a black truck, it doesn’t show that much dust they said… I keep a swiffer at the ready. Does a decent job of getting the dust off. Even after every drive down a dirt road it seems to stick to everything. I asked the dealership when I got my oil changed if it’s normal. The tech shrugged and said he hadn’t heard if it wasn’t. He recommended the swiffer idea. Good luck!

Yours fills with dust with the windows up?

Not sure who told you a black vehicle wouldn't show dust, but they were either lying or stupid.

Are your vents set at re-circulate air or air from exterior? Just my .02

I have a 2015 and never had this problem. Though I don't drive on dirt roads often...

with the windows up it’s not as bad. The rear door handles seem to always let dust in. Vents usually off. I’m mostly a windows open person. Maybe new car plastic and static charge?

I wouldn't think any dust should be coming in with the windows all rolled up. I go trail riding pretty consistently, sometimes down very dry Dusty roads. The only time mine has come close to looking like the one in the original post was when I was bringing up the rear during a long group trail run in very dusty conditions.

One of the firewall pass-through grommets is not sealed. Check the one where the AC condensation drain tube exits. It is on the passenger side just above the edge of the carpet. If that one is not seated right it is high enough to let dust into the cabin.

There might also be a problem with the pressure vent flapper thingies underneath the sides of the rear bumper. That would definitely be covered under warranty.

Your interior looks exactly like mine did after leaving my rear hatch window down a few inches going down on a gravel road.

    Good luck getting this resolved!

Please post if the issue is found.

you could count your blessings, I spent a week on Colorado jeep trails in a buttoned up wrangler ragtop and you could grow potatoes inside afterwards.Impossible to clean it all out.

I live on a dirt road and my 2016 gets dust inside regardless of what I do. Always windows up and recirc on and still collects dust like an old bible. I have just given up and have dust cloths in the door and wipe down while at red lights.

I have a '22 and off road often. I'm OCD, so when on a trail I have my windows closed and the A/C set to recirculate to minimize interior dust. I've noticed much more dust inside after a trip than I'd expect there would be; equivalent to the OP's pictures but much less concentrated and not in wierd patterns. In those photos, it seems like it is attaching to some kind of interior dressing/cleaner that may have been used (hopefully not Armor All, which destroy an interior faster than a dump truck full of dust). Though I find the excess dust less than optimal, I also enjoy detailing my cars, so don't think much of it. I replace my cabin air filter after every off road trip, so it is more than fresh before the trip (4R only has 5k miles). My guess is that there are a lot of factors at play.... temperature (seals are expanded or contracted), type of dust/dirt, speed, if there's a car kicking up dirt in front, etc.... It's a 4Runner, it's not going to have the bank vault seals that a Bentley would..... The friends I go with experience the same amount of dust in their interior after a trip; they have Gladiators, new Broncos, older 4R's etc...though I'll admit they are not as careful about keeping their windows closed.
