I am looking to replace the automatic radio antenna on Momma’s ride. What have y’all used in place of the factory antenna?

I replaced mine with one from rockauto.com. It comes with a plastic tail with teeth on it. Just google the "how to replace antenna on 98 4runner" and there is a video of how to do it. Provided that your motor is good, it's pretty easy. Just remove a few bolts from under the fender to access the motor. good luck.
