    Hello all!

I am brand new to the forums and am looking on purchasing my first 4Runner ever as I plan on making my way out west! I have nailed down my selection to the Off-Road Premium as I think that will best suit me as I will not need the TRD PRO with the heavy off-road suspension. I am trying to figure out what is really worth it and what I don't need if you guys have opinions about certain items. Specifically, I would like more input and opinions (is it worth it or not) about these options:
    • KDSS (is a lift kit / leveling kit NOT recommended to install with this option?)
    • XP Predator Package
    • Sliding Rear Cargo Deck
    • Center Console Locking Safe
    • TRD Skid Plate
Let me know what y'all think about these options and if there is anything else I should look for and to watch out for!

2022 TRD ORP; Silver; too many port options...Ah well...
    TBD
I’m two months in to a 2022 ORP. Although I didn’t want them, the port added the safe and the skid plate (among several other things), and I either had to had to walk away or pay for them. Now I’m glad to have them. The safe combined with keyless entry means I can leave keys, wallet, etc. in the truck. The skid plate looks great and offers protection enough for my use case.

Predator step bars hang too low but short people like them. My sister both an ORP also and got KDSS and the cargo deck, and likes both. I wanted neither for my use but to each his/her own. Good luck!

I'd ditch the XP steps and TRD skid.

I would watch some videos on that cargo tray. Toyota Jeff and his team did a nice segment on that if you search it. I was initially going to get that but later decided not.

For myself when I looked at it, I thought too many things would slide off that I regularly keep in the back. I use mine for fishing/towing and I keep a lot of gear in the back all the time that if moving the tray would slide off and be a hassle. Many here love it though and I see its practicality. I would just advise watching some videos on it to getter a better sense if you want it.

Are you planning to offroad? If so definitely stay away from the predator steps. TRD skid is a toss up as there are many aftermarket options. KDSS is a good option, most lift kit manufacturers have products for KDSS equipped trucks. I personally love the cargo tray as it makes loading heavy items pretty effortless.

    Below items are not worth IMO;
    • XP Predator Package
    • Center Console Locking Safe
    • TRD Skid Plate

I personally wont take KDSS with the aspect of long term reliability (you can find online 4R & GX KDSS leaks, ability to lift (normal lift like 2.5-3in front and 2in rear) not having to face problems like KDSS lean, easiness to install sliders, skids, Easy maintenance not having to remove and clean to prevent lines from corrosion. KDSS only give better articulation in front, have less articulation in rear when stock (at least when I check using jacks). After lift the fixed point will be more limiting factor and also having to deal with issues like track bar hitting KDSS components. I also don't like the jarring feeling driving on trails, much prefer soft ride with non KDSS. I purposely made the font small because I don't want to argue with anyone. Only use my points to find out about these items and DO NOT CONSIDER AS ADVICE NOT TO TAKE KDSS. I had lot of fun with 4Runners and with current situation in country I debating to move out of 4Runner world and think of other fun things.

If you carry a pistol, the console safe is great...

Good look Matt. My buddy was telling me he had a safe in his truck that got smashed in pretty easily. He recommended getting a hefty one that bolts into the car. Do you know if the factory Toyota one is worth it, if not do you have any recommendations for a safe?

    my advice:
    1. look at what you can buy on aftermarket and compare costs and quality. Do you want the TRD skidplate or an aftermarket one?
    2. consider that different options may or may not be available in different regions. I don't think KDSS is available in the South East, but it seems common in Colorado (based on my recent searches). XP may be similar.
    3. availability is really tough right now. Check out the "how long at the port" and "how long did you wait" threads. You will probably have to be flexible with what you want. You might be better off buying in Colorado.

I just picked up my 22’ ORP and did not get any added options. Love it and plan to add some tasteful mods myself. Don’t let them rip you off with additions and dealer fees.
