We have put 1223 miles on our 2022 4Runner, but, for the most part, it’s been sitting in the garage. That is gonna change on Tuesday when my wife takes it to Long Beach, Ca to visit her dad. He is 94 years old. My wife drove the 4Runner for about 50 miles just to make sure she knows the car. Hate to have to spend the money on that expensive Ca gas, but, she will be there for a couple of weeks. Got to find out what kind of gas mileage we can expect from the 4Runner. Our CRV was getting 30mpg. 9C218640-64EE-4819-8128-6DD31E05B00D.jpg

Don't even compare it to a 30mpg vehicle, or you'll be disappointed. I get a consistent 21.5-22 on mostly highway driving. I drive 75mph or lower. The 80-90mph range hurts due to the fact it's not aerodynamic. So if she can settle in at 70 or so, she should see 20 I would think.

    Safe travels to her!

I agree with @Daddykool. The problem I have with 70 mph is that I seem to get blown off the freeway by everyone else going 90. But Iam a stubborn old fart and hang in the slow lane (right lane) trying to stay around 20mpg.

Why not drive the crv or rent a car that gets 40mpg. Will probably save money in the long run.

I just drove from MT. to SoCal. a few days ago dragging my empty V-nose cargo trailer.
$450+ in gas. MPG… unknown and unwanted. The drive back north with a full load, will seem to be
up hill all the way, with a few crosswinds thrown in there. MPG’s be dammed.

    Also safe travels for her.
    And don’t forget the sunglasses.

My wife was recently in Mexico for 2 weeks with our daughter and I drove her 2018 CRV a bunch. It’s only got 28k on it and I found it very comfortable to drive. Of course, 32 MPG was the reason I drove it. We used my 4Runner from Houston to Pensacola in 2021, before the onset of inflation, and loved it. Safe travels to your wife and health and happiness for her dad.

Thanks all. She made it safely and the first thing she did was go to In-n-Out burgers. Dinner for her and her dad. We don’t have any In-n-Out here in New Mexico, so, we always make it our first meal when we get into Ca. The 4Runner made it from Lordsburg, NM to Quartsite. Az on one tank of gas and after filling the tank ($92.00), she made it all the way to Long Beach, Ca where her dad lives.
The reason we bought the 4Runner was because of the ground clearance. We would have stayed with a CRV, but, we have ripped off all the protective skid plates on the Honda 3 times because we are on dirt roads every day. One time we put a hole in the oil pan and had to be towed in to have it fixed. ED53A4AF-2DFD-46A4-ACF4-526C7C4FA43E.jpg

That’s one of the first things I do too.
Either stop at the one in So. Vegas near the Costco gas station or the one in the Barstool/Lenwood area.

If you can, hit the Canadian side. The views are better, especially right at the viewpoint brink of where the Horseshoe fall drops off.

Tommy’s on Anaheim in Long Beach, that’s dangerous. You’ll be leaking like that CRV.

CRV doesn’t leak and we really like animal style In-n-Out. Make sure you tell them animal style.
