The wait is finally almost over.

 

And according to VF Tuner, Magnuson has exclusive access to the 2020+ T4R ECU, so near term at least, the only way you can “tune” a 2020+ T4R is to buy a Maggy and install their tune. No naturally aspirated tune access at this time.

 

I cannot wait !

What's yall's thoughts on having one of these on a 4R that you mostly just use in the dirt (trails/camping) ? Obviously everything is sealed just like the rest of the engine, but would a 4R that is around dirt a lot still be a safe candidate ?

 

How much do these run?

 

How fast do they prematurely kill the powertrain?

 

This is essentially the same supercharger Magnusson developed on behalf of Toyota/TRD as a factory authorized upgrade which retained the factory warranty and was installed at Toyota dealerships. It runs around 6psi of boost which is very conservative. I doubt it affects engine longevity all that much. Personally, I'd really like the 20% additional HP and Torque!

Yea it’s pricey. If I had money like that right now - I’d get one. It would be wonderful for the mountains here in Colorado. That’s if you can do the installation yourself too

 

Reckon what the upside down side to this versus just re-gearing for bigger tires towing and more weight?

It's nice to have something that pulls with engine torque and not gears or the transmission it's what I miss the most about my Cummins

 

Do y'all think this will have a CARB sticker? California laws and such

All Magnuson SC applications are CARB. That’s one of their big selling points. However, to date it has meant their tunes for their SC’s leave much to be desired.

 

I have had one on my 2012 Tacoma Off Road Sport 4WD since it was new and it has been flawless. The truck now has 140K miles so to answer your question, I would have to say that they do not kill the power train at all.

 

$10K to put a supercharger on a body-on-frame gas guzzler SUV? Are you people crazy or just rich?

 

Well, I ain’t rich so I must be crazy.

 

One aspect that gives me pause: Premium Fuel Only. With the trajectory of fuel prices it would hurt (worse than normal) every time you have to pull into a gas station.

 

My question to you is, have you done any further tuning, or have you been running the canned tune Al these miles.

 

I had a couple supercharged tundras , power was great , only negative was you must use high octane fuel . I was hoping for a diesel tundra but it never happened .
I still have my 2020 LC 200 and had plenty of power , to add a supercharger would be a waste for me , I would be back to high octane and with the high fuel prices , my 4runner is the cheapest vehicle I have to operate , next machine down is my motorcycles .

 

What does a regear cost on a 4 runner?

 

The only other performance modifications have been a smaller (URD) pulley for the supercharger, a cold air kit, and exhaust. I have done nothing with the actual tuning of the PCM beyond the software that is installed with the supercharger.

Regear = less struggle when you are towing, takes off faster, you can still feel the engine work.

Supercharged = effortless cruising and passing, it's a more relaxed driving experience.

Regear + supercharged = the way it's meant to be.

that's the experience based on what I've done on my Tundra, I regear first as I tow a lot, it helped a ton, but then I couldn't resist supercharger so I cave in for that as well.

 

I’m thinking you could definitely benefit with a custom tune, especially with the pulley swap.
