With Toyotas new crazy Lexus pricing on the new gens and their movement away from equally specd SR trims I'm buying an Xterra if Nissan does an S model 4x4 for $33k instead of the new gen 4Runner SR5 for $50k usd. Toyota is losing their minds when it comes to pricing. There's not a new non detuned 4x4 tundra within hundreds and hundreds of miles from here for under $48k before taxes and fees and that's for an SR5 short cab LOL. Who is paying that??

I'm sticking with anything that has the Toyota badge on it, purely for the reliability.

Of all the Toyota and Nissan trucks cars and SUVs I've owned the only one to leave me stranded was a RAV4

Nissan has always been very reliable for me. Got 250K trouble free miles out of 2 Nissan trucks.

I like the looks of this new Xtrerra except for that damn step along the roof from the front to rear seats.

Kind of looks like an FJ and an Isuzu Rodeo had an illegitimate love child.

I have a friend who is service manager at Honda and they have a Nissan and Kia branch also. He advised me to stay away from all Nissans.

I wish his place sold Toyota because I would have bought from him.

I would definitely buy a used Xterra Pro 4X right now if they were half the price they are going for.

Lol! I don't think you're getting into a 4×4 XTerra for anywhere near $33K. That's if they even offer them in the US.

Look around. Everything is expensive right now.

Isn't the Xterra a trim level of the Pathfinder, and isn't the Pathfinder now a crossover?

Not saying it's a bad vehicle (not that I'd trust most Nissans) but seems to me this is not in the same category as a BOF 4Runner.

Did he say why probably cvts I'm glad they finally moved on to ZF HD direct shift 9 speeds. I've had two of them and they are surprisingly good at towing and in first gear 4low. But they feel like hitting speed bumps in shifting the low gears when just cruising around town

He did mention the cvts and said in general the quality control has gone south. Their warranty work in general is very high.

I had asked about a Rogue for my ex girlfriend and he said stay away. Then I asked about the Armada for myself and said the same. The Rogues are very bad on trannys apparently. I have known him 20 years and he advised me to look at the 4R

Nissan is trending slightly upward with them at least ditching CVT. The new Z looks decentish as well and I must say I see many Patrol/QX’s around here as well.
That said, the dealer experience is atrocious and will be sullied by offering 31% APR’s on Altimas to any and all for some time.

Of all the 4WDs I've owned, the only one to leave me stranded was a Jeep Cherokee!. I've broken down in Toyotas, Nissans, etc. but all got me home!

Did have the tranny go out on my 2005 Frontier due to that coolant/transmission crossover leak that Nissan did not recognize existed. Sold it to my gardener and he fixed it and loves it.

I had a 2011 Pro-4x Xterra prior to my 2018 4Runner SR5 4x4. It was great, the only thing that crapped out on me (thank goodness I was close to home) was the Crank Shaft Position Sensor. This new rendering appears to have a longer wheel base than the 2nd Gen Xterra.

Looks cool but it's just a rendering. It won't look anything like that if it comes out.

The Pathfinder has jumped around various market segments, while the Xterra always stuck with the Frontier pickup underpinnings. It would be sad if the new version didn’t continue that tradition.

It's ashame Nissan got away from the qc they had in the early 90s. They were the dominate prototype cars in IMSA racing and they did pretty well in desert racing.
I had a 1990 Sentra that took a shit ton of abuse, and was still running great when I sold it with 220k miles.
My ex had a manual Pathfinder she drove forever.
The emissions and mileage nazi's sometimes force poor corporate decisions.
The DEF fluid shortage / debacle right now is a perfect case in point.
Your groceries are gonna go up exponentially very soon because of it.

The reason Toyotas cost so much new and used is the utter failure of the rest of the players in the market. People don't want to drive unreliable junk and yet domestics and Nissan do nothing but try to find out new ways to make their vehicles even less reliable.

Hence you get the prices that you get.

Only real competition would be if Honda would get their act together and put out a ladder frame platform.

I’m ok with the price I paid for my SR5P. It’s worth every penny in my book. Bronco’s and Wrangler’s both have exceeded the price range of most plus both of those vehicles are $30K vehicles at best. Reliability has a price.

It’s just sad the reliability comes from the fact they don’t make enough power to tear anything up. lol

There might be some truth in that. Although I feel the 4R has plenty of power with a throttle controller.
